Q4
1. WHO WOULD BE THE AUDIENCE
FOR YOUR MEDIA PRODUCT?
Question 4
2. WHO ARE THE BBFC?
The BBFC is also known as the British Board of film
Classification. They were founded in 1912 by the film
industry and are responsible for the classification and
censorship of films that go into cinemas.
The BBFC is a not for profit organisation. This implies
that their fees are used to keep its independence.
Overall, the BBFC never receives help from subsidiary
companies or the government. All of its income is
from the fees and charges of its services and then it
is invested back into the BBFC.
To match your film to an age rating you have to fit
the restrictions. It is important that the right one Is
chosen for your film so it fits the correct target
audience.
3. THE CLASSIFICATION AGE RATING
SYSTEM
To release a film you have to go through the BBFC for them to age rate your film. This is
crucial because you want to make sure that it fits the correct age range and target market
so you do not get any complaints.
- U – Suitable for all ages
- PG – All ages with parental guidance
- 12A – Suitable for ages 12 years and over
- 15 – Suitable for 15 years and over
- 18 – Suitable for people over 18
- R18 – suitable for adults with licensed premises
4. WHAT WOULD YOU RATE YOUR FILM?
After looking back at my film, I have
decided that if I were to get the BBFC to
rate my film, it would be a 12A. This is
because even though it is a horror there is
gore or death which suggests it can appeal
to a larger target market.
As well as this, my film will be completely
British as it is filmed in England and I have
a British actor. This suggests that it will
appeal to the British public. However, the
horror market is very niche which is why I
chose 12A because it can appeal to teens
which is my target market.
