Q7
1. LOOKING BACK AT YOUR PRELIMINARY
TASK, WHAT DO YOU FEEL YOU HAVE
LEARNT IN THE PROGRESSION FROM IT
TO THE FULL PRODUCT?
Question 7
2. 5 months ago, we worked in groups to create a foundation production
task. This was initially some practice for our final production. We created
storyboards, scripts and also worked on the different camera movements
to make sure we had a rough idea on how much detail we would need to
go in for our final project. We also edited it on software of our own choice
to create a final product. This was a useful part of planning for our final
project because it allowed us to see how much planning needed to take
place and how much time we needed to put into things.

3. PLANNING
Preliminary Task Final Project
Limited detail
on shots,
sound and
camera
movement
Lack of colour,
detail and no
annotations
on who the
characters are
No
explanations
on why I
decided these
shots
I decided to go into more detail for
my final project. This is because I
needed to know what was happening
when. I included the sound, camera
shots and angles and what was going
to be happening in the scene. This
was very helpful to look at during my
filming. By doing this, there were no
complications.
4. PLANNING
For my planning, I created a mood board
of the conventions of horror films. I used
some of the things in my mood board in
my final project. For example the woods.
As well as this, I included another picture
with are red dots. This is used because
film is filmed in the perspective of the
villain and this represents inside his head.
5. EQUIPMENT
Preliminary Task Final Project
For my final project I used a
canon to film my horror
opening. This produced
good quality videos and
was able to be put on a
tripod so shots were still
and steady.
For the preliminary task
we used an IPhone 6S to
film. This meant that we
couldn’t film with a tripod
so the shots were shaky.
6. CAMERA SKILLS
Preliminary Task Final Project
On the preliminary task we had
limited knowledge on the different
camera angles and how to use them.
This is why this practice was a good
idea because it allowed us to develop
our skills and understand how to put
the shots and movements we wanted
into real life.
Overall on the final project I had
better knowledge and
understanding on the different
shots, angles and movements. It
took some practice at first to get
them in the right position but
overall it was a quick and easy
process because I knew what I
wanted due to my storyboard
planning.
7. EDITING
Preliminary Task Final Project
For the preliminary task we
edited it on IMovie. This is
because we already knew how
to use it and it was convenient
because we could edit it in
lessons and out of lessons. It
was also quick and easy to do
because it was straight
forward.
For the final project I
wanted to use something
that was better and more
complex. This is because I
believed it was produce
the best end product. This
is why I chose to use
Adobe Premiere Pro.
8. CREATING SOUND FOR YOUR FILM
Preliminary Task Final Project
For the preliminary task I used
IMovie saved music to add sound
into my video. This is something that
I had very limited knowledge on how
to do so It was quick and easy to use
as it was on the same software I was
editing on.
For my final project I used a
range of different websites to
add sound in my film. I did some
research and found FreeSFX and
also YouTube. This allowed me to
convert the files into an MP3 so I
could use the sound effects over
my film.
9. CREATING AN IDENT
Preliminary Task Final Project
I decided that having an ident that
would fit in with my genre would link
the whole project together. This is why
I decided to use Blumhouse. This is
because the opening of it is very
paranormal and scary. This gives a
good introduction to my opening
because it allows the audience to
understand the genre.
I did not use an ident for my
preliminary task. This is something
that I needed to include in my final
project to make it look more
professional.
10. CREATING TITLES
Preliminary Task Final Project
We did not use titles in our
preliminary task. This is because it
was only a short clip and it didn’t
have a specific title. However, this is
something we could’ve definitely
improve on for our final projects.
For my final project I created my own
titles for my opening. This involved me
researching and finding different fonts
that would fit in with the conventions of
my genre. This was an exciting and
interesting part of my project because I
was able to be creative and do what I
wanted.
11. TEAM WORK
Preliminary Task Final Project
For the preliminary tasks we worked in
pairs to create the short clip. We both
decided on an idea and I drew out the
storyboards that we were going to be
working from. We both had a chance
to film and Georgia worked on the
editing while I found the background
music to use.
For the final project we worked
individually. However there was
teamwork needed for the actress and
myself. This is because we needed to
communicate on what I wanted her to
do. This allowed us to have good team
work to get a final product because we
both knew what was going on.
