Quarter 3 – Module 3:
Judging the Validity of the
Evidence
Listened to
Validity of evidence through Technology
•Technology comes in handy in facilitating smooth
communication among individuals or businesses;
as it provides alternatives that lead to effective
communication. Through smartphones and
computers, people can pass messages and receive
feedbacks through calls, messages and emails
respectively.
•Today, people can use online chats to
communicate with their peers in real time without
using a cell phone. Online chats are normally
granted by email providers as a bonus capability
similar to networking sites. The same chats allow
people to contribute to a topic of interest to
strangers; thus providing a learning opportunity
and exchange of ideas. People can also exchange
other personal details with people they meet and
chat with in the online chats.
•Radio drama is a dramatized, purely acoustic
performance. With no visual component, radio
drama depends on dialogue, music and sound
effects to help the listener imagine the
characters and story: "It is auditory in the
physical dimension but equally powerful as a
visual force in the psychological dimension."
•Extracting Information
•Through technology, you are able
read, watch and listen to a lot of
information. This information may
influence you to believe certain ideas
and push you to take some form of
action. Some information may also
dissuade you from believing or doing
other things.
•Many writers use argumentative texts to
persuade the readers to agree to their
points of view. Writers do so, not just by
presenting information, but by showing
the pros and cons of an issue. In
extracting information from an
argumentative text, you must be able to
note the issue and the supporting (pros)
and opposing (cons) opinions about the
issue
•Evidence is a type of literary
device that appears in different
categories of essays and theses,
in the form of paraphrase and
quotations. It is presented to
persuade readers, and used with
powerful arguments in the texts
or essays.
•It is factual information that helps
the reader reach a conclusion and
form an opinion about something.
Evidence is given in research
work, or is quoted in essays and
thesis statements, but is
paraphrased by the writer. If it is
given as it is, then it is quoted
properly within quotation marks.
Function of Evidence
•1. When writing something about literature, or
writing about a particular text, a writer needs to
strengthen his discussion by providing powerful
answers from the text as evidence of the
questions he raises.
•2. It is not enough to just simply drop in
quotations around the text and expect their
relevance and importance of his arguments to
be self-evident.
3. The audience will only believe what the writer o
the speaker has to say if he proffers strong evidence
to back up his arguments .
4. Evidence not only helps the writer convince
his readers, but also persuades them to feel
sympathy, or to support his argument.
5. Mostly political speakers, research writers, and
editorial writers use evidence extensively to turn
public opinion for or against some issue.
