2. My Project
I contacted my client about the project asking if they would like any work doing, they quickly
responded and where very keep to understand more. My client was a company called UK Gravel,
as you can imagen this was not the most exiting subject to be creating products for however I
felt that this challenged me to create something that people could find interesting. My brief
asked me to create a business card for the company and a leaflet that would be used as
promotional material for the company, the only other specification was to include the logo in all
my products.
3. Legal
Did you face any copyright issues with your project?
As all my image were either from my clients and were their own images or I took them myself because of
this I had not copyright issues with my images. The information that I have used in my products have
gathered from my clients website and my client themselves, I have not copied information from other
websites and company's so there was no restraints there.
Did you face any regulatory issues with your project? (ASA)
I did not face any regulatory issues with regards to the advertising aspect, all the information that is in
my products is fact and is very similar to the information on my clients website. Because of this I know
that the information is within the advertisement rules, I also made sure that the prices were all correct
for all the different products I have created.
Did you have enough funding to achieve your goals? Did you face any financial strains in your project?
I received no funding from my client, however I already had everything I needed to make the things my
client wanted. All of the software and the equipment I needed I could get from college, this mean that
no funding would be required.
4. Management
How well did you manage your project?
Before I started the production part of my project I created a schedule,
this gave me clear amounts of time that I had to stick to to create my
different products, it left time for every part of my project and time for
improvements. Because I had a timetable that I could stick to that
meant I had enough time for everything it made it easier to see where I
was in the project compared to where I should be. When my project
was underway I realized I had given myself fore time than was
necessary for each task. Because of this had even longer to look over
my project and make sure it was as good as it could be. As well as this I
think I managed my project well as before I started production I was
clear on everything that I was doing, I had created drafts for each
product I was going to make and these had been sent to my client and
they were clear on what was happening. I think that this helped my in
my project because it meant that I was clear in my own head about
what I was creating and what the client wanted.
5. Management
How well did you manage communications? Did you keep in good contact with your
client throughout the project?
I had very strong communication with my client through my project, I would mainly
e-mail them and as they are based in an office they are always on a computer and
would usually reply within about 15 minuets. This meant that when I had questions
for my client or needed specific pieces of information I could contact them quickly
and get a clear response. The only downside to this form of communication was that,
because they were at work at the time I was emailing them, the responses I got were
never very detailed. In some e-mails I only needed a few word answer or an image
from my client. However when it came to the improving my work, the feedback I
received was very generic and not very detailed, which made it harder for me to
make improvements based on what my client thought.
How well did you manage your time? Did you meet all your deadlines?
Almost every piece of work that I had in this project I have met the deadline for, this
meant that everything could be marked and I could be given feedback on every piece
of work so that if it needed improving I had that time to make improvements. The
only thing that I was late on delivering was the pitch, this was because I was
concentrating on the products that I had to make and forgot about the pitch. This
meant that I delivered my pitch the week after I was support to, giving me less
change to improve if I had to.
6. The Brief
Did you meet the requirement of the brief?
The brief that I got from my client was not very detailed and left my a lot of freedom with regards of the style of what I
created. I was asked to make a leaflet and a business card and was asked to include the logo on every product, this meant
that I had a lot of freedom to create whatever I wanted. Because of this, meeting the requirements of the brief was very
easy, I had two different products that I had to create and apart from that I could make what I wanted.
Did you achieve what you and you client agreed on the brief? If not what was changed?
I have achieved what my client and I agreed on in the brief, we did not settle on a style as the client themselves did not
want any specific style they just trusted in me to make something that looked good. I have created a business card and
leaflet for them as this is what they asked for, however I also created another leaflet a ‘gravel guide’, I created this because
after speaking to the client and discussing their main target audiences, they had two and my work would only reach out to
one. Therefore I decided to cerate the gravel guide as well as the original leaflet to make sure that both of the audiences my
client wanted to attract where targeted.
One way that I have met the brief is by making the logo for my clients company logo present on all of my products. On the
business card it is placed in the center on the card on the back, I did this because all of the information that needed to be
on the card was on the front and would have looked to cluttered with the logo on the front as well. However because I have
put the logo on the back it stands out much more and is much more proponent on the card, the is also helped because the
images on the back of the card are not at full opacity making them look more faint and making the logo stand out more.

I have made sure that I have included the logo on everything I made for
my client as that is what they asked for, on both of the leaflets I have
included the logo on the front covers. I have done this because this was
one of the only specifications that my client asked for and therefore I
wanted to make sure that it was present and clear on everything I made.
8. Feedback
When I had finished one product I would send it to my client for some feedback, they
would then look at each of my products and think about what they wanted to change and
what they think could be improved. Most of the feedback that I got from my client was
specific technical aspects on my products, for example I had to change the web address so
that it lead the audience to the correct, most relevant website. These feedback notes
were helpful because it meant that there was a fresh pare of eyes on my work that were
able to spot mistakes. It also meant that someone who knew more about the products so
they could determine whether the products were relevant on every product and whether
they were explained well enough for the specific audience.
Another way that I gathered feedback on my work was by asking my college tutor what he
thought could be improved in my work. Something that he suggested was to make the
front cover all white, before this it had a green/ grey background on the front of both the
leaflet and the gravel guide. Because of this I changed the background to white on both of
my products and now I think it looked more professional than before.
Another way that I got feedback on my work was asking another person in my class to
review it, I did think after I had finished my work and therefore didn't’t follow what they
suggested as I had already met my deadline. Something that they said they would change
was the they would give more of a detailed description of the different types of gravel in
the gravel guide. They suggested that giving a more detailed description would give the
customer more information about what the product is.
9. What you’ve learnt.
What have you learnt from this task that could help you in the future?
Something I have learnt from this project is how to deal with a real life company client, I have
discovered more about the idea generation proses that involves another outside party. This has
taught me how to be more flexible with my ideas and how to change them slightly to fit what
someone else wants. It as also helped me with regards to being able to talk to other professionals in
an appropriate way, how I can critics certain ideas that they put forward without them being
offended. As in every project, timing and organizational skills are developed, however in this project
especially as I was working on my own and had to motivate myself to get the work done, I think this
will help me in the future as when I am working alone and there is no one checking up on me I will be
able to focus myself and get the work done.
As well as this I have learnt about the different types of briefs, with this I have learnt about the
advantages and disadvantages of each type of brief and in what circumstances should certain briefs
be used. This will be helpful in future projects as it will make it more likely that I will fully understand
briefs that are given to me as well as being able to understand what legal consciences these briefs
may have. This will make it easier to decide which projects to take on and which to pass.
