2. Indie music videos are known as being low budget, and so the
style of images in the magazines matches this in a clever way,
plain backdrops or easily accessible backgrounds such as
public places are used, being independent
Quirky styles are common, and this links to the British
audience in particular, very unique styles in a strangely
charming fashion
Softer colours and vintage trends are common, again showing
quirky props etc. that’s low budget
Guitars are featured often, in particular, acoustic for indie,
electric guitars are used for hard rock magazine images
however are less common in “Indie” magazine in particular
CONVENTIONS
3.
4. I am using inspiration from “kerrang!” magazine in particular,
I used inspiration of “best voted tracks by you” to use on my
double page spread as an idea
I thought that this would give an interesting aspect to my
magazine as it shows many links to different bands,
stretching my target audience to more successful profit of my
magazine in theory, following this convention will address my
target audience successfully and add a good use of text that
doesn’t look draining to read, which is also a convention of
these magazines, the text is concise and the images are
quirky illustrating the text, which I will do also
Indie magazines use females quite a lot for photography,
contrasting to straight rock magazines or heavy metal, I shall
use female models also throughout my magazine
MY INSPIRATION
5. The text used in indie and rock
magazines varies, however electric
strokes are used quite commonly
along with rough handwritten
looking fonts
For the majority of text used in the
magazines it is more clear and
simple to allow ease of read, the
titles are more bold and sometimes
use these conventions
Black is the most commonly used
colour as it is cheap to print and
fits the bold/ easy to read
conventions, a contrast of black
and white is key
Colours are used more on front
pages, particularly with titles, a
colour code of 3 or 4 colours are
usually used
