Job Description The Financial Planning and Analysis (FPA) team is at the heart of
the corporate centre. We are responsible for the overall
financial strategy for BIS’ c£30bn budget, and overseeing the
delivery of savings agreed as part of the Spending Review
settlement.
The team has oversight of the overall Department’s in-year and
medium-term financial position and associated delivery risks. It
works closely with group and corporate finance teams in order
to provide strategic advice at a senior and Ministerial level to
inform decision making, helping BIS make best use of the finite
resources available to it - including efficiency savings in line
with our BIS 2020 vision. Consequently, the team is a fast
paced and dynamic place to work, at the heart of the
Department’s decision making.
The roles available will involve the monitoring and coordination
of BIS financial management processes, risks and opportunities.
It will also involve the development and delivery of a suite of
financial reports and analysis to increase quality, usability and
efficiency of financial information used to inform decision
making across the BIS group. The role holder will need to work
closely across FPA and group finance teams and other
stakeholders, should have analytical experience and a good
understanding of financial management and systems.
Specific activities will include:
→ Ensuring the smooth running of key financial processes
including month-end Management Accounts, quarterly
budget reviews, risk reporting and cash management by
maintaining data and gathering the required inputs from
2. across the business
→ Developing financial planning models and performing
analysis to support strategic financial decision-making
→ Developing and maintaining analysis which improves the
alignment between financial and policy performance
information
→ Maintaining and improving the integrity of financial reports
available to the BIS group through the creation of a log to
inform system change requests and reporting
developments
→ Embedding financial processes and controls across the BIS
group through the development and monitoring of key
policy documents, guidance and training
→ Taking an active role in engaging and communicating with
group finance teams, UKSBS, HMT and partner
organisations where relevant.
→ Developing expertise across the finance and reporting
systems used in order to provide support and training to
key users and help maximise the use of the systems
available to us and the smooth running of key processes.
→ Working across FPA to ensure that future year/ strategic
developments are factored into reporting and supporting
narrative.
