School trips are an incredibly exhilarating experience for
young minds constantly seeking to learn new things. Learning
by nature cannot remain confined to books alone or to the
walls of a classroom. It encompasses all of life’s experiences
and therefore, learning beyond books makes the education
that we impart in school relevant.
Delhi Public School, R.N. Extension, is committed to creating
the vital link between learning in the classroom and the equally
important topical learning from the school of life outside the
classroom. The pages that follow are representative of the aim
of our institution, which is to take teaching beyond the walls
of the classroom into the freedom of outward exploration and
creativity.
There were many outcomes from this intensive two-day
journey to Agra and Fatehpur Sikri. All this, and much more
is yours to discover as the students help you relive the
excitement of their experience in the pages ahead – replete
with photographs and one-liners, memories and impressions.
We, at Delhi Public School, R.N. Extension, wish to
acknowledge our gratitude to the accompanying teachers for
their excellent collaboration. I would also like to recognize the
essential contributions of EdTerra Edventures Private Limited
who have designed and taken out this journey. The company’s
efforts before, during and after the journey enabled students
to produce this beautiful magazine.
We know there is no better way to conclude this message
than to give a stirring thank you to the students, who were
energetic participants and willing learners throughout.

Our journey to Agra was long and exciting. It took us around four hours to reach Agra. We had a lot of fun on the
bus. Wewould like to tell you what we learnt from our trip. We learnt about the family tree of the Mughal empire. We
visited variousmonuments in Agra such as the Taj Mahal, Fatehpur Sikri and the Agra Fort. We enjoyed visiting the vast
complex of theTaj Mahal. There are five major elements in its complex — main gateway, garden, mosque, rest house and
mausoleum.
We had to walk a lot in Fatehpur Sikri because of its huge complex. We learnt that Akbar was born in 1542 and died in1605.
He ruled the Mughal empire from 1556 to 1605. Akbar’s son was Jahangir and Jahangir’s son was Shah Jahan, who
commissioned the Taj Mahal. Shah Jahan’s son Aurangzeb kept his father as a prisoner in Musamman Burj from1658
until his death in 1666.
I enjoyed visiting the Agra Fort a lot but I liked the Taj Mahal the most. This was our first trip from the school and we
allenjoyed the journey a lot.
7. We learnt a lot about Fatehpur Sikri, which
encapsulates the elements, ideals and
heritage of the Mughal Empire.
The Taj Mahal is usually thought of as a
single building but we discovered that the
Taj Mahal complex comprises of various
structures with amazing architecture

On the first day of our journey to Agra, we visited the Agra Fort. We learnt about the history of Agra and its variousMughal
rulers. We saw Diwan-i-Khas and Diwan-i-Aam in the complex of the Agra Fort. We also saw Musamman Burj, where Shah
Jahan was kept as a prisoner by his son, Aurangzeb from 1658 until his death in 1666.
The next place we visited was Fatehpur Sikri. We learnt that Akbar had four major wives — Ruqaiya Sultan Begum,
SalimaSultan Begum, Jodha Bai and Mariam-uz-Zamani. Jodha Bai gave birth to Akbar’s son and the next ruler, Jahangir.
We also learnt that Jodha Bai was Hindu and had a separate kitchen, meant only for vegetarians. It is believed that
Akbar’s Mughal wives were not supposed to show their faces to anyone. Whenever Tansen, Akbar’s singer used to sing
a song, all the royal ladies used to sit behind the curtains and listen to his singing. We saw various structures in the
complex of Fatehpur Sikri such as Buland Darwaza, Jama Masjid, Diwan-i-Khas and Diwan-i-Aam. We learnt that the
Buland Darwaza is the tallest gate in Asia with a height of 54 metres.
9. We felt royal visiting the Hall of Audience
or Diwan-i-Aam that was used to hold
public meetings with the king

We saw the Yamuna covered in fog. It was very beautiful. We ate a lot of snacks on the bus. When we reached Agra, we
first went to the Agra Fort. After lunch, we visited Fatehpur Sikri. It is around forty kilometres from Agra. The town was
established in 1569 by the Mughal Emperor Akbar. All the structures in the complex of Fatehpur Sikri are constructed
gracefully. We clicked many photos. We learnt about Mughal emperors such as Akbar and Jahangir. We also saw Buland
Darwaza or Victory Gate, Asia’s tallest gate. It is fifty four metres tall and is counted among India’s greatest architectural
works. The enormous gateway is made of red sandstone. We also saw Panch Mahal, a five-storeyed pillared pavilion.
At night, we checked into our hotel and changed clothes. We went for dinner and slept afterwards.
The next day we went to the Taj Mahal. It is situated on the right bank of the Yamuna. We bought a lot of souvenirs for
our parents. We went to a restaurant for lunch. We loved the trip to Agra.

We enjoyed our bus journey to Agra. We ate a lot of snacks. When we reached Agra, we visited the Agra Fort. We saw
numerous structures in the complex of the Agra Fort such as Moti Masjid, Diwan-i-Khas, Diwan-i-Aam, Sheesh Mahal and
Musamman Burj. The Agra Fort was commissioned by the Mughal emperor Akbar in 1565 and it took eight years to build
it. The fort was designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1983. We learnt a lot about the history of the Agra Fort and
the Mughal emperors. In the evening, we visited Fatehpur Sikri and bought a lot of souvenirs.
The next day we went to the Taj Mahal. The Taj Mahal is a very beautiful monument. It is one of the Seven Wonders of the
World. The monument was commissioned in 1632 by Shah Jahan in the memory of his beloved wife Mumtaz Mahal, who
died while giving birth to their fourteenth child. The Taj Mahal is considered as one of the finest Mughal architectural
buildings in India.
We stayed at Howard Plaza, the Fern in Agra. At night, we played many games. Our entire journey was very nice. We went
with our teachers. The chicken in the dinner was delicious. Agra is a beautiful place and there are many things to see.

Hello everyone! We had a long and exciting journey to Agra and Fatehpur Sikri. We enjoyed the quizzes and games that
we played on the bus. We learnt about the lives of Mughal emperors and Mughal architecture. Agra is an important site
to learn Indian history when the Mughals ruled the nation. Agra was the capital of the Mughal empire for various years.
We listened to the audio about Mughal history played by the EdTerra team on the bus. We participated in various games
and quizzes. The games were about the reign of the Mughal empire. We enjoyed all the activities a lot. Towards the end
ofour journey, we received badges.
We discovered that Mughal emperors like Akbar and Jahangir respected all the religions. Akbar and Shah Jahan
commissioned beautiful monuments such as the Taj Mahal, Fatehpur Sikriand the Agra Fort. We visited these monuments
and had a lot of fun. Ruqaiya Sultan Begum, Salima Sultan Begum, Jodha Bai and Mariam-uz-Zamani.
Our trip to Agra was full of education and fun. We enjoyed the journey a lot.
