School trips are an incredible opportunity for young minds that
are constantly seeking information, experiences, and acquiring
knowledge. In our experience, when these young minds go
beyond the classroom, they cement and build upon curricular
subjects and lessons. Outdoor learning helps the students
develop a more holistic understanding of themselves, their
skills, their curriculum, and how all this ultimately relates to the
development of the world.
Delhi International School, Dwarka is committed to create a
vital link between learning in the classroom, the students’ inner
lives, and the world at large. The aim of our institution is to take
teaching beyond the walls of the classroom which involves
outward exploration and creativity.
We chose this particular program to Udaipur for its unique
approach to understand the historical and cultural aspects. We
visited several places in Udaipur including City Palace, Lake
Pichola, and Haldi Ghati.
Helping us to organise and implement this journey was a
company that specialises in student education travel. EdTerra
Edventures brings over ten years of experience of having helped
over 40,000 students learn from the diversity of our planet. We
are happy to share the success of this collaboration with EdTerra
Edventures’. We seek to make our students global citizens
who actively understand and contribute to the United Nations
Sustainable Development Goals. Further, from EdTerra’s travel
curriculum and to develop 21st Century Skills amongst millennial
students, we opted for Student Media Projects especially
EdTerra’s Travel Journalists Program. This magazine — Student
Travel Chronicle (Udaipur) is a product of our students’ teamwork
to write and collect their journey experiences and impressions in
a comprehensive manner. We hope you will enjoy reading this
Chronicle and have valuable points to take away from students’
experiences.
Finally, we, at Delhi International School, Dwarka would like to
acknowledge our teachers. The success of this journey is only
possible with their responsible and informed efforts. I would
also like to recognise the support and assistance provided by
EdTerra Edventures Private Limited in successfully conducting
this program. We also thank our parents who remain our most

We learnt the history of Udaipur on our journey. Maharaja Udai Singh established Udaipur as the capital of the princely
state of Mewar in 1568 after Akbar captured Chittorgarh. The Mewar dynasty was ruled by thirty-three kings.
We also visited one of the oldest tourist attractions in Udaipur, Moti Magri. There we saw a seven tonnes statue of
Maharana Pratap riding on his horse, Chetak. It is believed that Maharana Pratap Singh wore an armour weighing 72 kgs
in the Haldighati Battle.
We explored another famous tourist attraction in Udaipur the City Palace. We also visited the famous Fateh Sagar Lake.
We enjoyed the traditional culture, art, architecture and heritage of Udaipur. We learnt that the battle of Haldighati was
between Maharana Pratap Singh of the Mewar dynasty and the Mughal emperor, Akbar. Maharana Pratap’s favourite
horse, Chetak also died in this battle of 1576.
It is estimated that around twenty thousand soldiers died in the Haldighati battle. We saw numerous paintings that
depicted the history of Udaipur. We also clicked photographs in front of the Fateh Sagar Lake. We enjoyed visiting the
Haldighati Museum. We learnt that the Lake Palace was commissioned by Maharana Jagat Singh II in the year 1743. The
construction of the Lake Palace was completed in 1746. We discovered that Lake Pichola was built in 1362 and Fateh
Sagar Lake was built in 1678.

is a memorial of the Haldighati​battle. It is located at a distance of forty kilometres from Udaipur.
Haldighati is considered as one of the most important historical sites in Rajasthan. The museum has many activities
such as a light and sound show on Maharana Pratap Singh and a short movie on the Haldighati battle.
The light and sound explains the history and the life of Maharana Pratap Singh. The short movie contains information
about the battle of Haldighati. The museum was kept in a pristine condition.
We learnt that the Mughal army was commanded by a Hindu King, Raja Man Singh of Amber whereas the Rajput army
was led by Afghan warrior, Hakim Khan Sur. The Haldighati battle was won by the Mughals but it became a glorious
chapter in the history of Mewar.
We learnt a lot about Maharana Pratap Singh and his dynasty from our visit to the Haldighati Museum. We also visited
some shops that were selling traditional Rajasthani clothes and souvenirs.

The City Palace in Udaipur was commissioned by Maharana Uday Singh II in 1559. Towering over the beautiful Lake
Pichola, it has the second largest palace complex in Rajasthan. We observed that the City Palace has a fascinating
combination of Rajput and Mughal architecture. It is worth nothing that this grand palace was built over a period of four
hundred years by different rulers who managed to brilliantly retain the uniformity.
The palace can be divided into three major parts — one large part is kept as a museum for its tourists, second part serves
as the royal residence of the current royal family and the third part is kept aside as a luxury hotel.
We learnt about the life of Maharana Udai Singh and the history of Mewar at City Palace Museum. The museum
showcases the weapons and armour used by the different rulers of Mewar dynasty. We also observed rare paintings of
the Rajput kings and their battles. We really enjoyed visiting the City Palace.

We learnt about the rich history of India through various monuments and old paintings in the museum. The paintings
date back to the early 16th century and depict the lives of various rulers and their families.
We learnt that the paintings also depict the battles fought in the past. One must visit Rajasthan to enjoy its rich art and
architecture. These monuments are constructed with the help of many skilled architects and craftsmen. We observed
that Eklingji Temple has rock carvings on its walls and stairs.
There is a statue of Maharana Pratap Singh and his horse Chetak in City Palace. One of the paintings at City Palace is
made of cutting tiles that shows that Chetak wore an elephant mask as a face armour during wars.
The architecture and the artwork in Rajasthan is so popular that it attracts people from all over the world. We had a lot
of fun with our teachers and friends. We all clicked various photographs.

Everyone should visit Rajasthan because it is one of the most famous tourist destinations in India and Southeast Asia.
Rajasthan has various forts, palaces, lakes such as Lake Pichola, Chittorgarh Fort and Mehrangarh Fort. The festivals
and the culture of Rajasthan makes it a famous attraction for any tourist.
We visited Udaipur, also known as The City Of Lakes. The first place we visited when we arrived in Udaipur was the City
Palace. We feel that it is difficult to describe India’s second largest palace. The glasswork in the halls and decor on walls
are so vibrant and extraordinary. We took the tour of the palace with a Journey Mentor from EdTerra Edventures. Our
Journey Mentor guided us throughout the journey and enlightened us on the history of Udaipur.
We also visited Fateh Sagar Lake. The lake was very beautiful and surrounded by hills. Fateh Sagar Lake, an artificial
lake, was commissioned by Maharaja Jai Singh in 1678. It lies north of Lake Pichola. We loved visiting and learning
various things from our journey to Udaipur.
