2. RESEARCH OBJECTIVE
• MEANING:
• “A research objective is a clear , concise , declarative statement , which provides
direction to investigate the variables” .
• Research objectives are the results sought by the researcher at the end of the
research process , that what the researcher will be able to achieve at the end of the
research study

3. CHARACTERSTICS OF RESEARCH OBJECTIVES
• A well worded objective will be SMART.
• S- Specific
• M- Measurable
• A – Attainable
• R – Realistic
• T – Time bound

4. NEED OF THE RESEARCH OBJECTIVES
The formulation of research objectives will help the
researcher to-
• Focus
• Avoid
• Organize
• Directions

5. THE RESEARCH OBJECTIVES ARE
TWO TYPES
GENERAL OBJECTIVES:
• General objectives are broad goals to be achieved.
• The general objective of the study states what the researcher
expect to achieve by the study in general terms.
• General objectives are usually less in numbers.

6. SPECIFIC OBJECTIVES
• Specific objective are short term and narrow in focus .
• General objectives can be broken into logically connected parts
to form specific objectives .
• The specific objectives are more in number

7. EXAMPLES OF GENERAL AND SPECIFIC
OBJECTIVES:
• Research statement
• “A quasi experimental study on the effects of Yoga Classes on Happiness among
School Teachers in selected cities of Uttar Pradesh”.
General Objective of this research statement should be
• To assess the effects of Yoga Classes on happiness among school teachers

8. SPECIFIC OBJECTIVES
This general objective will be split into the following specific
objectives
• To determine the factors of Happiness in the School Teachers of
the selected schools of Uttar Pradesh.
• To compare the effects of Yoga Classes on happiness in between
Male and Female teachers of the selected schools of Uttar Pradesh
• To identify the relationship of effectiveness of Yoga Classes on
happiness in the school teachers of Selected schools of Uttar
Pradesh

Objectives are simply research questions paraphrased!!!!

• To assess the knowledge regarding Emotional Restraints among nurses
working in psychiatric unit of Private Hospitals of Lucknow city .
• To evaluate the effect of planned teaching on Emotional Restraints among
nurses working in psychiatric unit of Private Hospitals of Lucknow city.
