2. DEVELOPING PROBLEM SOLVING THROUGH
PROBLEM BASED/ PROJECT BASED/ CASE
BASED/ LEARNING
• Problems are part and parcel of life.
• Many times individuals are able to solve problems but sometimes they
fail to do it.
• If we are trained right from the beginning in the school wrt how to solve
problems by using problem solving method we will be in a better
position to live life effectively.
3. WHY PROBLEM SOLVING MATTERS
• Kids face a variety of problems every day, ranging from academic difficulties
to problems on the sports field. Yet few of them have a formula for solving
those problems. Kids who lack problem-solving skills may avoid taking
action when faced with a problem. That's why many kids fall behind in
school or struggle to maintain friendships.
4. WHY PROBLEM SOLVING?
• A 2010 study published in Behaviour Research and Therapy found that
kids who lack problem-solving skills may be at a higher risk of
depression and suicidality.
• Additionally, the researchers found that teaching a child problem-
solving skills can improve mental health.
5. DEVELOPING PROBLEM SOLVING
• In a problem solving method, children learn by working on problems.
This enables the students to learn new knowledge by facing the
problems to be solved. The students are expected to observe,
understand, analyse, interpret find solutions, and perform
applications that lead to a holistic understanding of the concept.
6. DEFINITIONS OF PROBLEM SOLVING
• According to Carsie- It refers to task making decisions or doing things
that learner wants to do, experience and try to reach the solution.
• According to Skinner- Problem solving is the framework or pattern in
which creative thinking and reasoning takes place.
7. WHAT ARE THE AIM OF IT?
1. Motivates to face problems
2. Develops willingness to solve problems
3. Improves Patience and Perseverance
4. Develops Self- confidence
5. Encourages systematic approach
6. Find and choose suitable solution
7. Ability to select and apply different strategies
8. Practical utilization of solution
8. PROBLEM SOLVING METHOD OF
TEACHING
Problem solving through problem based-
1. Identification of problem (Why Mast. Aniket is not studying well in
exam)
2. Analysis of the problem (Clarity about what the problem and what can
be the solution)
3. Formulating the hypothesis (tentative solutions)
4. Testing hypothesis
5. Finding a conclusion.
9. MERITS
• Encourages learning by doing
• Stimulates thinking
• Increases the readiness to face problems
• Improves patience, confidence,
• Develops reasoning, observation
• Learning becomes interesting, purposeful and interactive
• It is one of the most important life skill
10. DEMERITS
• Time consuming
• Teacher may dominate
• May lead to wrong solution
• Sometimes discourages
• Suitable to higher grades
• All topics cannot be covered
• May lead to indiscipline
11. LET US LEARN ABOUT
Developing problem solving through case study and
project based way
12. Can you name the story?
What is the story about?
13. WHY PROBLEM SOLVING IS SO
IMPORTANT FOR STUDENTS?
• It helps to develop critical thinking
• It helps to develop creative thinking
• It helps to develop Individual and Group Problem solving.
• It helps to develop resilience.
• It teaches that every problem has multiple solutions.
• It helps to develop social skills as well.
14.
15. DEVELOPING PROBLEM SOLVING
THROUGH CASE STUDY
What Is a Case Study?
A case study is an in-depth study of one person, group, or event. In a case
study, nearly every aspect of the subject's life and history is analyzed to
seek patterns and causes of behavior. Case studies can be used in a variety
of fields including psychology, medicine, education, anthropology, political
science, and social work.
16. BENEFITS
• One of the greatest advantages of a case study is that it allows
researchers to investigate things that are often difficult to impossible to
replicate in a lab.
• Allows researchers to collect a great deal of information
• Give researchers the chance to collect information on rare or unusual
cases
17. LIMITATIONS
• On the negative side, a case study:
• Cannot necessarily be generalized to the larger population
• Cannot demonstrate cause and effect
• May not be scientifically rigorous
• Can lead to bias
18. CASE STUDY OF HARI
• Hari is studying in class 7. He is more inclined towards sports. He has
less interest towards academic subjects. His attendance is good but still
the score is not as per the expectations.
• His previous teacher has left and you are new to his class. In the parent
meeting, the parents have talked to you about increasing his interest
towards academic subject.
• What will you do in the above case?
19. STEPS
• Determine and define research questions
• Select cases and determine data collection and analysis techniques
• Collection of data in the field
• Evaluate and analyze data
• Prepare the report
