Eating for life food,
1. EATING FOR LIFE - FOOD
• We need food to stay alive. Food acts as a fuel for the body.
• It gives us energy to work and play.
• It helps the body to grow.
• It repairs the damaged parts of the body.
• It keeps the body fit and healthy.
2. NUTRIENTS
We get nutrients through the food we eat.
There are five main nutrients:-
1.Carbohydrates
2.Proteins
3.Fats
4.Vitamins
5.Minerals
3. CARBOHYDRATES
Carbohydrates gives energy to the body.
Growing children and sports persons need carbohydrates.
These are of 2 types:-
1. SUGAR
2. STARCH
Example of carbohydrates are: Rice, Wheat, Corn and potato are rich
in starch.
Fruits like banana ,grapes and mango are rich in sugar.
4. Proteins
• Proteins build our body and help it grow.
• Proteins build our muscles.
• Proteins help to heal wounds or damaged parts of the body.
• Example:-
MILK,CURD,CHEESE,EGGS etc.
5. • Fats provide much more energy than carbohydrates.
• We should consume fats in very small amounts.
Examples:-
BUTTER,GHEE,OIL,NUTS etc

7. MINERALS
• Minerals help us to grow and stay healthy.
Calcium, Iron and Iodine are some imp minerals.
8. FOOD PYRAMID
• The Food pyramid is a guide that helps us choose a healthy diet.
• It recommends us that we eat:-
A large portion of carbohydrate rich food
Plenty of fruits and vegetables for vitamins and minerals.
Sufficient amount of proteins and fats in small amount.
9. BALANCED DIET
• A diet that provides all the nutrients that our body needs to work
properly is called a balanced diet.
10. FOOD PRESERVATION
• The method by which we can prevent food from spoiling Is called
preservation.
