Introduction
What is stress?
Stress is a normal physiological response to a
challenging or adverse event, and acute (short-term)
stress will provide energy and improve alertness to deal
with a situation, but when stress is pervasive it can
become chronic and damaging. University students
often report feeling intense stress, high anxiety,
depressive feelings, low self-esteem, suicidal ideation,
and substance abuse.
During our SAP we are trying to find out HOW the
Anxiety is developed , WHAT are the causes and
factors leading to Stress, WHEN uneasiness and
irritation leads to stress and WHAT kind of
stress postgrad students feel and go through.

In SAP we created a new set
of questionnaire to measure of
student stress consisting of 15 items
to investigate the symptoms of
stress and potentially protective
factors.
A total of 15 university students
(mean age 20.2 years, 9 males, 6
females) participated in survey.

More than 50% of students reported
nightmares about exams, feeling of
“being better off dead,” or of not being
liked by the professors.
12. Most of the students surveyed were not sure or claimed not to
be coping with their stress levels. Their strategies varied and
they had a good degree of insight into what was helpful, from
eating healthily, to playing sports, gaming, walking and taking
time to rest or socialize with friends.

Coping Strategies
Keep a positive attitude
Sometimes the way you think about things can
make all of the difference. Your attitude can help
offset difficult situations.
Learn to relax
Purposeful relaxation, such as deep breathing,
muscle relaxation and meditation is essential in
training your body to relax. Relaxation should be
a part of your daily regimen.
Accept that there are events you cannot
control
When you know there are times when you have
given all that you can to a situation, it allows you
to expend energy where it can be more effective.
Rest and sleep
Your body needs time to recover from stressful
events, so sleep is an important part of caring for
yourself.
Be active regularly
Being active also helps your body more easily
fight stress because it is fit.
Find your stressors and effective ways to
cope with them
Remember that you can learn to control stress
because stress comes from how you respond to
stressful events.
