The colour scheme forthisalbumisan
interestingtake on R&B music,however,
whenlookingfurtherintothisCDalbumdo
we trulygrasp the reasonfor itsdesign.The
setupof the colour scheme compositionis
intriguingtosee aswe notice three key
elementswhichbringsaboutthe covers
mainadvantage (sellingpoint),one of these
elementsisthatof the lighting.The lighting
withinthisimage seemstobe more
concentratedon the mainpointof focus
(Beyoncé) thisnotonlydrawsthe
audience’s attention tothe artistbut
meansa varietyof otherthings.One of
whichshowsan angelicappearance tothe
audience asif praying(thiscouldsymbolize
herin-depthconscience/understandingof
heractionsand what she has done),anotherpointin(termsof lighting) isthatitcouldconfirmthe
audiences thoughtsonthe locationof where the artistis,forexample the lightingsuggestthe over
hang of a light(suggestingthe locationof agarage/indoororparkinglot).Myfinal pointonthe
lightingcompositionisthat eventhough there isaconsiderableamountof litareaswithinthe photo,
the mainfocus of lightingisthe surprisinglythe lackof light,the lackof the lightingsuggesta
noticeable contrastbetweenthe maincomponentsof lightvsdark,normallywiththiscontrastit
furthersuggests conflictinacharacter or the focus pointwithinaphotographaddingtothe
potential innerconflictBeyoncémaybe feeling.
Lookingat the songswhichthisalbumcontains,itisnoticeable tohearthat mostof the songscan be
interpretedasameaningful message (butyetatthe same time sorrowful),inmyopinionIbelieve
thisonlyaddsto my theoryaboutthe colour scheme contrast& lightcontrastas havingsimplistic
effectsemphasesthatmeaningful message.
The textwithinthisalbumissomethingtoconsiderasitagainhas importance tothe advantagesof
the albumcover(sellingpoint).Byhavingsuchasimple wordinsucha simple fontaddstothe album
coverbut alsosubtracts it(ina good way),how itadds to the coveris byshowingagainmore
importance of the focuspoint(Beyoncé;whichagaincouldshow how herandher musicare of more
importance thanthat of the title andother details).Bynothavinganyother textonthe front panel
(Anyfeatures,etc) showsthatitisjustBeyoncé andshe is the reasonwhyyouare buyingthisalbum
(whichshowsthatshe isveryreliantonher reputationthatshe needsnoothertext/informationto
define herorhermusic).

importance asthisshowsthe
transitionof moodfromthe
front– the back, thisis
noticeably shownby Beyoncé’s
composerwithinthe image,
fromhunchedposition(hiding
herface) suggesta defeated
look,howeverwhenturning
towardsthe back suggestthe
transitionof emotionfrom
defeated –fightingback.This
theoryissupported(yetagain)
by the lightingasnow mostof
Beyoncé’s facial feature of
determinationcanbe seen.As
statedbefore the angeliclook
couldstate a sense of hope or
determinationtocarry on
fightinginhercause.
The feature of textisnoticeable withinthisbackgroundimage asithasfollowedthe same features
as withthe front.By againkeepingthissimplisticandminimalisticlookof the textemphasises her
relevance onherreputationthatshe needsnoothertext/informationtodefine herorhermusic.
