3. Front Cover;
The front cover uses key methods in order to
attract and address the target audience.
On facebook, an audience member said that
the front cover was “kind of eye catching
with the text, but the image could stand out
more”.
The text and typography, especially within the
masthead, stand out against the
background and the colours of the models
face and hair.
4. Contents Page
The contents page has a symbiotic link with both the front
cover and double page spread, using the text and
artist/model in order to connect the individual pieces.
A face book user within my target audience said the contents
page was “good at telling people where the pages are”
although a disadvantage is that “the girl on the right could
be brighter”.
The image could not be made any brighter without losing the
detail in the hair and face, although the audience member
was correct in stating the dullness of the image itself. The
address of the target audience came with the easy to
notice page numbers with clearly labelled pictures. The
target audience can be impatient and will stop reading or
not buy if they cant find the articles they need very
quickly.
5. Double Page Spread
The image is the most striking part of the double page
spread, drawing in the target audience and retaining
the interest throughout the uniquely designed article
structure. a member of the audience on facebook
said that the double page spread “looks loud and
fun, like I would want to hear her music because of
that article”.
The target audience retention was maintained over the
period of time that the article took to read, and gave
an interesting interview with the artist, preserving a
constant brand identity and mode of address.
However the article structure could have been more
involved with the structure of the image, providing
more striking colours or a grittier font type in order to
grab the audience even further.
6. Conclusion
Overall the target audience’s attention is
retained throughout all three media
pieces, showing a clear interest in the links
between the articles as well as the images
and articles themselves.
The media pieces could have addressed the
target audience even further using a more
involved image; for example giving the
audience and the artist/model a higher
level of connection, either through visual
direct address or similar in the articles.
