Transitions
Cuts – instant transitions
Fade outs – screen goes dark
Fade ins – screen becomes lighter
Wipes – new scene pushes old scene along
Dissolves – the screen blends with another
Ellipsis: shorten the length by taking parts out. For example a complete bus journey from a
to b compared to a person walking onto a bus then walking of a bus in a new destination.
This could be marked by a transition.

Context
Understanding films through context means knowing the conditions that surround the film
making and the redemption of film. Before judging or making a reading of a text. We should
be aware of context.
Spaced
Spaced is a 90s based TV show starring Nick Frostand Simon Pegg. The episode
we watched in the lecture was based around a night out drinking and the
things that happened in between. I found the episode slightly sketchy but still
really funny. The angles and shots used in the episode were really well used,
for example the shotbefore the street gun fight where the camera was pulled
back but the zoomwas used created a brilliant effect to show an adrenalin
rush type of mood to the shotat the character stayed where they werebut the
background was stretched. The programalso used a variety of ellipsis too
wherethe money was used to skip the shotto it been thrown on the table
which skipped the whole journey to the pub but the audience understood
wherethe characters wherebecause of the use of ellipsis.
