 Arial shots following the car giving the audience a look the scenery and
the surroundingsof the hotel.
 Lens flare used in some shots for effect
 Suspensemusic playing to symbolisesomething bad is about to happen
 Establishing shots of the hotel to give the audience a view of the
exterior.
 The transitions between shots areslow and film dissolveis used a lot.
 Over the shoulder shots used for when people are speaking to each
other and the 180 degree line rule is used in these scenes.
 The long corridor shots are used to symbolisethat the hotel seems to go
on forever and there is no escape.
 Panning shots used to show the interior of the hotel.
 The camera uses aperture to focus onto things that the audience need
to concentrate on and look at into moredetail.
 The film uses mirrors throughputto show expressions and things from
behind.
 The camera follows the characters in the film which shows thatthey may
be being followed
 The camera zooms in on facial expressions to show the audience how
the characters arefeeling.

2. My own interpretation of this scene is that Jack has always been the
caretaker for generations of his family and they are all destined to go to
look after the hotel for the winter and continue with the events that
happened in the film and it’s a continuous process. I think this because
there is none of Jack’s family shown in the film and there is nothing to say
that he has any family at all which could say that he keeps coming back to
the hotel and carrying out the same events.
