Lesson Structure
I. Organizing class.
II. Introducing aims and subject of the lesson.
You’ve learnt many facts about Ukraine and have found much information
about our Home Land – Sumy region. Now, let’s imagine that we are going to
open Travel Agency and we are to run its opening session.
The name is chosen, plan is written, roles are assigned, guests are invited.
III. Practical aspect of the lesson.
3.1. Starting an opening session.
Creative Manager:
Dear guests, colleagues and friends. We are thankful to everybody who has
come here today. Of course, we are very excited because we are starting “Wonders
of Ukraine” Travel Agency. The aim of our agency is to get our clients acquainted
3. with our Home Land – Sumy Region. We’d like to tell you why our Region is
worth visiting. So let us take you through Land of Sumy Region and help you
make the most of your visit.
3.2. Saying about history.
Assistant1: Sumy Region is situated in the north-east of Ukraine. It was
founded in January10, 1939. In 2014 it celebrated its 75th
anniversary of
foundation. It consists of 18 districts, 15 towns, 20 settlements, 1500 villages.
Romny, Hlukhiv, Putivl are region’s most ancient towns.
Assistant 2: What landmarks of our Region tell about its history?
Monument to Mammoth. Here in the village of Kulishivka, Nedrigailiv
District archaeologists discovered bones and teeth of mammoth.
Monument to the Last Cossack chieftain Pavlo Kalnyshevskiy in the village
of Pustovitovka, Romny District.
Monument to Yaroslavna. It was on the walls of Putivl fortress, that Princess
Yaroslavna lamented over Prince Igor and his armed retainers.
Monument to Hero of the Soviet Union Semen Rudnev in Putivl. He was
commissar of the partisan formation in Spadshchanskiy forest.
Monuments to Ivan Kozhedub in the village of Obrazhiivka, Shostka District.
The native of Obrazhiivka was presented with the Gold Star Medal three times.
Scythian Tumuli keep their secrets in Romny District.
3.3. Saying about nature.
Assistant 3: It’s also the beauty and excitement of our nature, where you can
lose yourself just as easily as you find yourself. All the round the Land of Sumy
Region is beautiful with its birch and pine woods, the quiet waters of the Vorskla,
Psyol, Seim and Desna Rivers, golden fields and fragrant meadows. Sumy Region
is rich in boundless forests and vast expanses of steppe, lakes and rivers.
3.4. Saying about famous people.
Assistant 4: So it is not surprising that this picturesque area has nurtured and
inspired many talented people.
4. Anton Makarenko, an outstanding pedagogue, was a native to the town of
Bilopillya.
Borys Hmyria, an opera singer, was born in Lebedyn.
Ostap Vyshnia, an outstanding humorist, was a native to the village of
Ghrun’, Akhtyrka District.
Ada Rogovtseva, a famous actress, Hero of Ukraine, was born in Hlukhiv.
Yosiph Shklovskiy, astro-physicist, was born in Hlukhiv.
Stepan Suprun, a native of the village Richki, Bilopillya District was
presented with the Gold Star Medal twice.
Assistant 5: And many other famous people were influenced by nature of
our land, when travelling.
Lesia Ukrainka visited the village of Kosivshchyna, Sumy District.
Taras Shevchenko highly appreciated talent of Karp Solenyk, when he
visited a fair in Romny. T. Shevchenko also visited Hlukhiv, Lebedyn, Krolevets,
Sumy, etc.
Petro Chaikovskiy, a composer, visited Trostianets, and very often he
visited the village of Nyzy, Sumy District. He couldn’t help admiring the Psyol
River. There he wrote his operas “Mazepa”, “Smith Vakula”.
3.5. Saying about museums.
Assistant 6. We organize tours to:
Museum of Chocolate in Trostianets. Exibits here are wonderful,
extraordinary and tasty.
Museum Complex “Spadshchanskiy Forest” in Putivl. It’s our history.
Here you’ll learn how our people struggled for independence of our country in
WWII.
Chekhov Museum in Sumy. Here the writer stayed, lived and worked.
Kozhedub Museum in Shostka. Exibits tell about life of our glorious
fellow-countryman, famous ace pilot I.Kozhedub.
3.6. Saying about festivals and celebrations.
5. Assistant 7. When you are tired of watching, visiting, seeing enjoy and have a
rest at one of our festivals.
Our Ukrainian people are well known for their folk and crafts. Ukrainian
Polissya has managed to preserve the deepest traditions of folk life. Craftsworkers
in Krolevets make embroidered towels (rushnyky) with striking inlaid designs. An
embroidered towel is a “visiting card” not only of our Region but the country as
well. We can see a fragment of an embroidered towel on a jubilee coin. A colourful
festival “Krolevets Embroidered Towels” gathers both amateurs and famous public
figures of literature and art in the town of Krolevets.
Assistant 8. If you are fond of classical music Bach-fest in the town of
Sumy is just for you. It’s held in October-November in Sumy Philharmonic.
On the programme: organ, fiddle, cello, harpsichord, chamber orchestra,
baroque-opera.
3.7. Saying about landmarks of today’s.
Assistant 9. New times require new monuments. There begin to appear
modest, sometimes ironic, but always with something very appealing in them
monuments. They just adorn out streets and parks.
A monument to Sugar and a monument to Sugar Children adorn Sumy.
This monument in Lebedyn needs no comments. This monument to Sow in
the town of Romny has also got its fans.
And of course, the town of Konotop has got its own symbol - monument to
Horse.
