2. *The result of this survey was to gather
feedback from Mattagami Members
*To help set direction for the Mattagami Trust
* Disclaimer: All Information is presented as it was provided
in the survey (spelling, etc.)
*
3. *The avenue for members to be updated occurs
through the following:
* Annual General Meetings are held annually* to
provide updates to band members on:
*
* Trustee Activities
* Financial Information
* Trust Projects
* A Newsletter updating members has been posted on
the mattagami.com website and on the Mattagami
FB page
*Always held the Friday evening prior to the pow-wow.
4. *Other avenues to provide information or gather
feedback takes place by:
* Bringing up Concerns, Questions, or Suggestions to the
following:
* Council
*
* The Trustees are required to meeting
annually with the Council to address any
concerns that may have been brought up to
them.
* Mattagami Trustees
* At a local AGM, or in writing to the Trust Chairperson
12. * 1 Helping with processes that gather feedback. Too often you see
limited access to participation in setting direction. (This survey is a
nice start) Also assist with the possibility of a complex that addresses
Youth, Elders, and Daycare needs.. Maybe not one building but could
be something adjacent to one another.. Could also be a hub of sorts
* 2 Fixing the roads
* 3 It's more fair to all beneficiaries as opposed to funding personal
projects where not everyone has the opportunity to benefit.
* 4 i would like to see a recreational centre with a workout
facility(gym) with equipment accessible to community members
* 5 I think the trust should continue to support the Pow Wow.
* 6 Day Care Center Elder's Complex
* 7 In my opinion, health, preservation of history and culture and
education would be the most important.
* 8 I would like to see something geared to members who live off the
reserve.
*
14. *1 If there was a goal setting survey for the community it
would help identify needs addressed by the admin
programs and the where there's a shortfall (and a spot
where the Trust could focus some funds to.)
*2 I would like to see both, health initiated community
projects and perhaps an emergency fund to assist the
elderly/handicapped/terminally ill clients that have
depleted all other avenues for assistance.
*3 same comment as above
*4 I feel monies should be distributed when and needed
*5 Not enough proper care for elders
*
16. * 1 Again if you know the feedback from members and
understanding of programs then where there's a shortfall you
could help with addresses some of the gap in access or what
have you.
* 2 I also feel whoever takes care of this should take all
applications and requests seriously
* 3 The individual proposal driven process could work again if it
was researched into, and monitored more strictly, but that
would require more work than could be reasonably expected
of from the volunteer trustees. Maybe later when the First
Nation has been given time to get used the current structural
changes (when the dust settles)
*
18. *1 I like the present bursary that is in place. Learning
about the trust at a younger age would be good too.
Maybe an adult education center (not fully funding it
but helping with some aspect) would also be in
collaboration with the band admin.
*2 Education bursaries
*3 Everyone should be given once they've completed
the project and only when completed
*
20. *1 Would be nice to see more focus on this area.
Especially in the school since participation by youth is
limited due to technology etc.. In school they LEARN as
part of their curriculum and then that knowledge and
skill isn't lost.
*2 furthering our traditional experiences with maybe
introducing a sweat lodge or a gathering center for our
traditional practices
*3 It's only fare that our members receive funds for
cultural stuff in order for our youth and members to be
kept updated
*4 administration may not have the same vision as
individual would be good to have both for cultural
development
*
21. * 1 Drug and alchole
* 2 Self defense classes for women and girls. Especially given the rate of missing and murdered women & girls in
* Canada. Maybe in collaboration with the health & naps.
* 3 Daycare program
* 4 Youth programs
* 5 Self-defense
* 6 Reduce and recycle education based initiatives Aboriginal student success initiatives
* 7 More healthy eating programs by dietician.
* 8 hosting more events besides fish derby's, like sporting events or jumping onboard with the music festival
developing an amphitheater for the future events
* 9 perhaps for training programs in native arts and crafts and more good entertainment programs with local and
professional individuals
* 10 GED that's well organized Computer course Hunting training
* 11 Grief Counselling Health & Fitness Cross Cultural - Job Readiness
* 12 A lot of awareness programs to help people grow, learn and prosper both on admin and individual levels.
* 13 Ones that allow access to traditions and our culture year round that do not cost money. Ie. Traditional
teaching circles, sweat lodges/ fasting ceremonies. Bring elders and youth to the elders gathering at trent.
* 14 more cultural teachings for the ones of us who want to learn more of our practices
* 15 Opportunities for people to upgrade their academic skills or register in distance education in a supportive
environment; tutors and peers to work with. A health geared facility with exercise equipment.
* 16 Traditional teaching for children and adults
* 17 More housing, as a member off the reserve as of Aug31st I am homeless
* 18 Elder and children connection based events
*

you feel are needed in the Community?

* 12 Geared to income housing
*
Q12 What type of Events or Programs are
needed by Members?
Please provide suggestions
Answered: 12 Skipped: 27
26. * 1 Pow wow, fish derbies, special events hosted by the different departments and
volunteer with evening events too with kids/youth.
* 2 Community barbecues, annual powwow, community movie nights, community
dances
* 3 Beaver fest Fishing derby Powwow
* 4 Powwows, beaver feast, trust meetings, general meetings, others
* 5 sometimes
* 6 Beaver fest, fishing derby, baseball tournament, pow wow, and basically any
other even that's being held.
* 7 Pow Wow Baseball Tournament Fundraisers
* 8 I attend the pow wow, unable to attend any other events due to being scheduled
during the week, would be nice if some events were on weekends so I could attend
and participate also, seems urban members are forgotten about unless it's to obtain
votes at election time
* 9 fish tourneys, pow wow just to name a few
* 10 Pow wow
* 11 Fish derby Beaver fest Pow wow Baseball tourney Summer fest New Years
celebration Graduations Christmas Concert
* 12 Only if they were held at a half decent time for people living off reserve
*
30. * 1 Loved it! It should always be an option. Not everyone wants
to attend meetings and be in certain company... I still have a
voice and should have an avenue to express my
opinions/concerns and take the time to be involved in a
capacity that accommodates my schedule and life too (this
survey does that.)
* 2 This survey was very narrow in scope. The trust does not
have the capacity to fund projects in every area so if you
were trying to determined where people wanted the funds to
go then you should specifically ask: Which area would you
like to see the funds driven. At no point was there mentioned
the Annual Pow Wow was initiated or funded by the trust and
then proceed to ask if funding should continue. These are
just a few examples.
*
32. * 1 Have an area for elders and those without computers to
participate too. Like an office computer to access it or something.
Or maybe during certain events have this survey available.
* 2 A well designed survey is a useful tool to gather information. I am
more than happy to help for the next survey.
* 3 I think it should be done door to door cause not all members if our
Rez have computers
* 4 Yes/No all depends on what the survey is regarding, and also what
the objective of the survey is, maybe have more information or
backgrounder why the survey is being conducted etc.
* 5 this can be considered transparent for all of the trust members
* 6 Not every member has access to a computer, alot of members who
are geared to income especially our seniors deserve to have input
*
33. Q19 Do you have any other comments,
questions, or concerns?
Answered: 7 Skipped: 32
* 1 Great job! Look forward to future feedback opportunities.
* 2 Mattagami needs a youth centre
* 3 Will surveys be used regularly ie: annual?
* 4 My concern is this survey is not well designed and folks are asked to give an opinion
on just two options, do you want the administration to handle the funds from the trust
or individuals to develop projects in different categories. By offering money to fill out
the survey folks have to pick either one question or the other without a full
understanding of the funds available per year or what projects have been funded in the
past. I believe this survey was well meant but I would be very cautious of the results.
Thank you
* 5 No
* 6 Suggest using some of the trust money to hire a web specials to ensure the
information on the Mattagami Website is current and up to date, currently not enough
information, especially for urban members.
* 7 The trust committee works very hard, and should be proud of themselves.
