earlymeetingwiththe directorandthe designteamisessential togetaclear understandingof the
productionconcept.The sounddesignerwill meetwiththe directorandthe designteam(set,
costume,lightingandsounddesigners),todiscussthe detailsof the setandthe director's
interpretationof the play.The set,costume andlightingdesignersalsomeetandworktogetherto
ensure the creationof a unifiedlookandfeelforthe production.
SoundOperator
- Theatrical soundengineersare responsible foramplifying,mixing,recording,syncing,and
reproducingsoundsandeffectsfortheatrical rehearsals,productions,andspecial events.Theymay
be responsiblelookingoverequipment,checkingconnections,andcoordinatingstaff.Sound
engineeringtechniciansworkalongside other theatre professionals,includingsoundmixers,sound
designers,producers,andperformerstoplanandcarry out the structure of soundfor every
performance.
LightingDesigner
- A lightingdesignerworkswiththe director,choreographer,setdesigner,costume designer,and
sounddesignertocreate the lighting,atmosphere,andtime of dayfor the productioninresponse to
the text,while keepinginmindissuesof visibility,safety,andcost.Lightingdesignersmake note of
the colour,the type of lightandthe locationof the lightonthe rig.
LightingOperator
- Lightingtechnicians('sparks') setupandoperate lightingequipment.The lightingteam'sworkis
crucial as lightingcreatesthe rightatmosphere toevoke anaudience'sresponseanddemandshigh-

DeputyStage Manager

Costume Master/Mistress
- The mainjob of costume designina productionistoprovide physical andemotionalsupportto
everyactor throughthe clothinghe or she will weartoenhance characterization.The costume must
workonstage.Thismeansitmust provide comfort,flexibilityanddurability.Atthe same time the
designmustprovide strongvisual supportof the story,conceptandcontextof the playas a whole.It
ismy role to ensure thatthe costumesreflectthe visual styleof the productionandhelpactors
portray theircharacterson theirjourneythroughthe play’saction.
PropsMaster/Mistress
- The PropsDesigner/Managerisresponsibleforobtainingall propsneededforthe production.
Theyalsowork withthe Stage Manager ingatheringappropriate rehearsal propsearlyinthe
rehearsal process.Theymayalsobe calledupontohelp the Scene Designerdressthe set.Depending
on the production’sneeds,the PropsDesigner/Managerwill pullfromstorage,purchase,ormake
the props forthe production.A prop listwill be drawnup.Itmay start witha listina published
script,but the Designershouldstill read the scriptandmake up theirown.Thislistwill be amended
by the Director and will probablychange duringthe process.Sometimescommunicationwillbe
made throughthe Stage Manager.
Front of House Manager
- Front-of-house managersrecruit,trainandmanage all house customerservice staff,including
ushers,concessionssalespeopleandbox office staff.Theyalsocoordinateanyvolunteerorunpaid
workersas required.Theycreate andmaintainmetricsreportswithregardstoattendance,lost-and-
foundandbox office receipts.Theyare responsible forthe overall experience of patrons,andso
coordinatesall concessionandmerchandise displays,the cleaningof the publicspacesandany
artworkor advertisementsthatare on display.Generatingrevenue isalsoone of theirmost
importantduties.Assuch,theymotivate theirconcessionstaff toupsell andmove as much
merchandise aspossibleduringagivenshift.Finally,theyare responsible forall vendor
management,andseesthatall liquor,foodandmerchandiseispurchased,deliveredandprepared
for sale.
