Learning?
“Personalization refers to instruction that is
paced to learning needs, tailored to learning
preferences and tailored to the specific
interests of different learners. In an
environment that is fully personalized, the
learning objective and content as well as the
method and pace may all vary (so
personalization encompasses differentiation
and individualization).”

student might need fluency, another decoding
and another comprehension).
▪ Assessment as learning (real reading!)
▪ Teachers create independent learners! (the
goal of guided reading)

Module Assignment:
This semester, you will work with a reading group using guided
reading. Please submit the first names of the students you are
working with, their reading level AND a beginning focus. This focus
might be fluency, a comprehension strategy (such as inferring or
predicting), or vocabulary.
As college- and career-ready standards become
a reality across the nation, educators and
system leaders are increasingly exploring new
models of
teaching and learning that are more responsive
to the needs of all students in our elementary
and secondary schools. Known as learner-
centered, student centered, or personalized
learning these approaches require a rethinking
of the teaching and learning practices that
have predominated public school instruction.

PL and Guided Reading ▪ Starts with the learner (based on student level and need) ▪ Connects with interests (books typically chosen based on level and interest) ▪ Different objectives (during the reading, one student might need fluency, another decoding and another comprehension). ▪ Assessment as learning (real reading!) ▪ Teachers create independent learners! Please submit the first names of the students you are working with, their reading level AND a beginning focus. This focus might be fluency, a comprehension strategy (such as inferring or predicting), or vocabulary.
