This document proposes a two-dimensional matrix model for assessing depth perception in academic libraries. It suggests libraries ask themselves questions to evaluate how well their expressed mission, policies, practices, and activities align with their host institution's mission. Specifically, it recommends libraries consider in which quadrant of the model their institution's mission falls and how closely their own operations fit within that expressed institutional mission.

expressed mission fall?
 How well does my library’s expressed mission fit within
my institution’s?
 How fully do my library’s policies and practices fall within
my institution’s expressed mission?
 How well do my own preferences and inclinations match
the expressed mission of my institution/library?
 How fully do my actual activities at work fit within those
expressed missions?
