Students will use their devicesto learnnew vocabularyand expressions inorder to describe their
school.
Timing: Steps of the lesson
10 min.
Previous lesson: Introduce new vocabulary and talk to students about next lesson.Try devices and install app. Check everything works in case plans need to be changed. School
policy has been checked and, if necessary, parents have been made aware of the use of the phone.
10 min. Talk to students about objectives and expectations. This includes reminding them school policy on mobile phones and consequences if they do not follow them.
20 min.
Activity 1: Quizlet Live. Tutorial for teachers: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rxl9wmXObmk This activity will consolidate the vocabulary learnt last lesson. It needs to be
prepared beforehand.
We can demonstrate students how to play by showing them this tutorial: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VyDWRKQ3fis
Advantages: This activity keeps students really engaged. The system shuffles the names, so you don’t have to worry about grouping them. It also analyses the information and
detects where most mistakes were made.
Disadvantages: The school network has to have a decent quality otherwise, it will not work. It also helps if we have a computer and a projector to show students the other
teams’ progress.
30 min.
Activity 2 (Part 1): Augmented Reality (AR). This needs to be prepared beforehand as well. It would be a good idea to test it to make sure we know how it works. Tutorial for
teachers: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lTGpjG_T7z8
Students will work in teams again. They will have to walk around the school using AR in their phones to find hidden messages in different parts of the buildings. They can watch
this tutorial before we let them know what the name of the channel is: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MVIuQ0q6jFw It can be a competition to make it more interesting.
10 min.
Activity 2 (Part 2): Put everything together. Students come back to the classroom and put all the hidden messages together. They can extend it to make it more interesting. The
most extended text will win the challenge.
10 min.
Plenary and discussion (self-assessment): Students explain what they have learnt and talk about the activity: what they liked and what they found easy or difficult.
We will assess our students’s learning when we check the texts they have produced.
