I am teaching a unit on linear functions to my 8th grade algebra class. Throughout this
unit, I will introduce various concepts to my students to interpret, solve, and graph linear
functions. In order to do this I will use multiple outside resources rather than using a textbook
and lecture every day. I will use social media, YouTube videos, math booklets, posters, blogs,
desktop publishing, storytelling, digital imaging, Pinterest, a WebQuest, Zello, Snipping Tool,
Edmodo, a graphing game, and student created robots to introduce these concepts and also as
forms of assessments. Instead of tests and quizzes as a form of assessments, I will evaluate my
students’ progress and achievements with their activities that solve or make on their own without
any major assistance. My hope is to have every student accurately identify, solve, and graph
linear functions by the end of this five day unit plan with the use of all these tools. By using
these tools, I also hope it promotes excitement in their learning rather than going with the
traditional worksheets and tests for a statistical way of evaluating your students.
