2. Goal: Work in groups of 4 to create the tallest structure to support the weight of at least 2 dice
Materials:
1) 20 3x5 Notecards
2) 5 4x6 notecards
3) 18 inches of tape
How:
1) You have 15 minutes to plan and build
2) You CAN’T fold or bend the 3x5 notecards
3) Feel free to bend the 4x6 notecards anyway you like
4) Use the tape any way you like but you can’t have more
5) Structure has to be fee standing
6) After I call time all work stops
7) Winner is tallest structure that remains standing after two dice are put on
3. 1) I don’t want to waste time. Be ready for class at the bell. Being ready means:
• Have pencil and paper out
• Have ipad out
• Be ready to listen
• Look for a introduction assignment
2) Focus is on class activity and other things shall not interfere with that.
3) Homework policy:
• Idea is to reinforce what we do in class
• No more “free day.” I expect homework done at the beginning of class and will often begin class by
revisiting the previous assignment.
• If something legitimate comes up that will prevent you from getting it done for class talk to me before
leaving and we can try to work something out.
4) It is expected that everyone will contribute and participate.
Feel free to ask questions
about this any time.
4. 25% - Homework
25% - In class assignments; including warm ups and exit slips.
30% - Tests and quizzes
20% - Midterm and final (7% and 13% respectively)
5. The basic materials I expect you to have every day:
1) Calculator (not ipad calculator). A recommendation is the TI-30 XII which is $17 at Wal-mart or $14
on Amazon.
• A TI-84 calculator is a better option, especially for taking the ACT and any kind of higher math. I
highly recommend it, however it is more expensive so I will not require it.
• Why have a calculator? Even though the ipad has a calculator, switching back and forth between
the calculator and other apps is annoying and inefficient. The ipad is a rood tool for doing certain
things. But just like you would not usually want to build a house with a handsaw because it is not
the most effective tool; you don’t want to use an ipad as a calculator for the same reason.
2) College ruled paper. If you use a notebook, make sure you save a section for notes to keep everything together. A 1’’
binder is ideal for keeping all your papers together and organizing material.
3) Someway to keep all math materials together and separate from other classes. Folder or binder works good. Let me
know of you need help coming up with a system that work for you.
4) ipad
5) Pencil and red pen for corrections.
6. 1) Unless instructed otherwise, hold on to your homework when you come in.
2) Absent and late work can go directly to turn in box before class starts.
3) Graded work will be in the return box for your class period. Please grab your graded work back once or twice a
week before the start of class. Put it with your math stuff and use it as resources when studying for tests. I will
recycle work that does not get picked up every few weeks.
4) All turned in assignments that you want me to grade need to
• have your name on it
• have the date on it
• have the name of the assignment on it (usually the ebackpack name)
• Be legible enough for me to grade and offer feedback
7. On the back white board, I will try to put up the following everyday:
• The assignment or homework for that day
• A QR code that links you to the PowerPoint lesson for the day or other resource we use
in class (if applicable)
It would be wise to scan the QR code before class begins so you have a copy of the lesson
for the day or if I move to a new slide and you are still copying something down.
8. I’m usually here from 7:30 until 5PM every day.
See me anytime I am available
Focus on asking specific questions and pointing out to the things you don’t
understand rather then simply saying “I don’t get it”
If you have a questions about something there is a good chance that someone else
does too, so don’t be afraid to ask.
