The Tondo Conspiracy of 1587-1588 involved several local datus who resented Spanish rule in the Philippines and sought to regain their former freedom and authority. The conspirators, led by Agustin de Legazpi and including chiefs from Tondo, Bulacan, Pandacan, and other areas, secretly arranged an uprising against the Spanish government but their plans were betrayed to the Spanish authorities by Antonio Surabao and Magat Salamat. In 1588 the conspirators were punished for plotting against Spanish rule.
