AGE
My final product appeals particularly to a younger
audience. I included currently popular artists on the
front cover that will be most popular with younger
people who more likely keep up with popular and
newer music. This represents their age group as older
artists would appeal to older people instead of the
newer artists featured.
I included the prize to be a
festival ticket as it is more
popular as younger people are
attending festivals more
frequently so this represents the
age group. Reading and Leeds
both having an attendance of
100,000 people under 20 holding
weekend tickets in 2014, proving
it popular in younger people.
This will help attract that
audience and possibly also
students who have little money.
Another thing that represent the age of my chosen target social groups is the inclusion of free posters. This
would appeal to younger people rather than older as younger people will tend to use them more so will be
more likely to buy the magazine seeing this as a benefit rather than not being bothered about them.
DEMOGRAPHI
CSI carried out some demographics research before creating my
product to find out the kind of things that would relate to a
younger audience. I looked at a social classes table to see what
my audience could fit into. The younger population would
typically fit into the D/E categories so I decided to aim it at
them taking into consideration features such as price.
I looked at already existing magazines and decided
the target social class and then based my magazine off
this. I looked at magazines such as Q magazine and
decided it was aimed at a wealthier class as it had
more pages and was more expensive. I looked at
NME and decided my product should be more similar
to that rather than Q or MOJO as it better represented
the class I was aiming for. I then based my type of
article on the articles they carried and made it a
similar price.
My magazine represents the lower social
classes such as D/E. These classes majorly
represent younger people as they are not in
serious work or are unemployed. This means
they will not have much money to spend
compared to other social classes so I have
thought about this when creating my magazine.
SOCIAL
CLASS
The price of this magazine took into account the
social class and typical earning of people in the
social groups I targeted. It was £2.50 which is an
affordable price for someone earning or receiving
low amounts of money. This will make it more
appealing as people this age will not want to spend
lots on non-essential items such as magazines. Also
when conducting research I found people in this age
group would pay a similar price to this.
The language I used was also
very basic so it could be read
by younger people in the social
class easily. The words
included do not need highly
developed language skills to
read so younger people still
learning could understand all of
the vocabulary.
I also made a big
portion of my
contents page
images which will
appeal to this class
more than heavy text
as it will be easier to
look through as a
magazine which
makes it less time
consuming for them
also.
GENDE
R
I wanted my magazine to suit both
males and females equally. To appeal
to both I included a solo female cover
artist. This will appeal to females as
they can relate to the cover artist and
may have an interest in successful
females in a male dominated industry. I
also feel this will appeal to males as it
is uncommon to see something like this
and could interest them. I kept the
colour scheme very gender neutral
(red, white & black) and basic so it
could appeal to either gender. Also, the
feature stories popular artists than have
fans that are both male and female.
STEREOTYPE
S
I used the stereotypes around my audience to influence my cover
artist. I looked into the fashion trends of female indie artists and
the trends of the audience and picked an outfit I felt represented
both groups well. I also included a guitar as a prop to relate to the
indie genre as this is seen as one of the main instruments for solo
artists or bands to contain in the genre.
I included specific artists
in my magazine on the
cover and the contents
page to represent the
social group I am
targeting by stereotyping
them. I made assumptions
based on my audience
research as to what bands
the social group would
like to see in the
magazine.
