MARIIN ang pahayag ni president-
elect Rodrigo Duterte sa isang press
conference noong isang araw. Sabi
niya, kaya maraming mediamen
ang napapatay ay dahil bias na
kahit nabigyan na ay bumabanat pa
rin.

13. Neck/Body:
Ginawang halimbawa at binigyang katwiran ni Duterte ang
pagpatay sa mamamahayag na si Jun Pala noong Set. 6, 2003 sa
Davao City. Pinagbabaril si Pala ng riding in tandem. Si Pala ay
kritiko ni Duterte. Sabi niya, “ I don’t want to demean his me-
mory but he was a rotten son of bitch, He deserved it..”
Sa lahat nang sector ng lipunan ay mayroong nangyayaring
corruption. Alam ng mamamayan ang kalakarang ito. Talamak
ang nangyayaring corruption at ang sector ng media ay kabilang
dito. May mga “corrupt” na mamamahayag na nagpapabayad
para baliktarin ang tama o kampihan ang nagbayad at mayroon
ding bumabanat kahit pa nga binayaran na.
Pero hindi naman makatwiran na dahil sa pagbanat ay
kamatayan na ang hatol gaya nang nangyari kay Pala. Ang lahat
ng mga nagawang pagkakamali ay may katapat na kaparusahan.
At sigurado kami na alam ito ni Duterte sapagkat dati siyang
prosecutor bago pumasok sa pulitika. Alam niya kung ano ang
nakasaad sa batas.

14. Arm:
Maraming mamamahayag na ang
napapatay. Ngayong 2016, dalawa na
ang napapatay at ang pinaka-latest ay si
Alex Balcoba, reporter-columnist ng
People’s Brigada na binaril sa harap ng
kanyang shop sa Quiapo noong
nakaraang linggo. Wala pang naaresto
ang pulisya sa pagpatay kay Balcoba.

15. Leg:
Sa aming palagay, may epekto ang
pahayag ni Duterte ukol sa pagpatay sa
mga mamamahayag. Parang binibigyan
niya ng lisensiya ang sinuman na
itumba ang mamamahayag kahit pa ito
ay parehas. Ito ang aming nakikita sa
himig ng kanyang pana-nalita. Sana
nagkakamali kami.

If the editorial criticizes, it should always be constructive.
Emphasize the positive about what you are criticizing, or
your readers will not trust you.
If you criticize, you have an obligation to offer an
alternative solution or course of action.

18. INFORM/EXPLAIN?
Editorials that explain are somewhat like expository
essays.
They attempt to interpret or inform rather than to argue a
point of view.
The only expression of opinion comes in the interpretation
of the facts.

19. PERSUADE/PROVIDES
SOLUTION?
Generally, editorials that persuade offer
specific solutions to a perceived problem.
They expect immediate action rather than
the understanding of a situation.
A persuasive editorial can provide
leadership in bringing about changes in
school policy or in student behavior.

20. PRAISE OR COMMAND?
If the editorial praises, there should be specific
reasons for doing so.
Perhaps an organization or individual has gone
above and beyond the call of duty and the staff feels
there should be some recognition.
