Project proposal title and date:
Lunar & Archipelagos by Anymore Liars
Main area of activity:
Graphic design
Rationale:
Throughout the past two years I have been developing my design skills which have progressed
most predominantly in the past few projects. During my first-year final major project I discovered
Photoshop rendering techniques which enabled me to create photorealistic levels of graphics in
order to produce a more authentic product. In addition to this I built upon my graphic design skills
producing two advertisements. Using my research, I was able to produce genuine looking adverts
for luxury watches.
The project after this involved creating a fanzine, which involved a mixture of graphic art and
design. I based my zine around apocalyptic scenarios which gave me opportunity to create artwork
for a variety of topics, many that were fictional. I built upon my techniques and discovered
alternative ways of producing graphics. This continued into my latest project; it was used to refine
these skills further, as I again based my work upon graphics.
Project Concept:
I will produce a collector’s edition album set for a fictional band that will include a CD case and
vinyl sleeve for two individual albums and additional artwork for each.
I will first need to research techniques of producing artwork for the covers. I wish to produce this
via a mix of digital and conventional art. I will therefore research methods of creating both with the
resources available to me.
I will research how themes are conveyed through albums, such as concept albums which have a
continuous message running through all its songs. This will further help me to understand patterns
throughout an album and help me to conclude its message in the cover.
I must also gain an understanding of what is to be expected in these products; the additional
pieces of artwork I mentioned. Whether this be alternative covers, unfinished ideas or poster sized
versions. Besides this I must research the dimensions of each product in order to produce them in
the correct size, especially when creating the traditional artwork.
How will the project be evaluated and reviewed:
Over the next 20 weeks I will be evaluating my work through a production diary. This will occur
every week and I will use to assess my progress and analyse my work. Not only will this improve
my production by highlighting any errors, but it will keep me to my schedule, which can also be
overviewed by the production schedule below.
I will use my research and contextual research to compare my work against, this method of self-
evaluation enables me to see what I am trying to achieve.
I will also receive peer evaluation which give me insight into certain aspects which I may have
overlooked. An outside perspective will interject opinions and questions about the work, which may
highlight illogical methods or content. It will also give me an idea of how the meaning of the work
will be received by the audience.
