Peripheral and Ports
OBJECTIVES 1. Identify and describe peripherals and their types.
2. Connect and disconnect peripherals from a
computer or other device.
3. Show appreciation of the importance of
peripherals.
Guide Questions:
1. Can you name that device? What is it?
2. What do you think its function is?
3. How much that it cost?
4. Based on the prices that you’ve given, how much would it cost if
we could have it all?
5. Now if the wage is 347 per day, how many days will it take for us
to buy all those mentioned peripherals?
Activity: Peripheral Matching Game
Instructions:
1. Read the given descriptions or examples.
2. Match each peripheral device.
3. After you find your match, kindly sit together.
4. But before you take your seat, determine first what type
of devices you are in, like output or input devices, and sit with that
group.
Guide
Questions:
1. What are the three types of peripheral
devices, and how do they differ from each other?
2. Can you give an example of an input
device and an output device, and explain how they
work?
3. How do advancements in peripheral
technology, such as virtual reality headsets or
touchscreens, impact the way we interact with
computers and other devices?
4. What are some best practices for
selecting and using peripheral devices, and how
can you ensure compatibility with your computer
system?

  4. ## Types of Peripheral Devices Peripheral devices are commonly divided into three types: input devices, output devices, and storage devices. Input devices convert incoming data and instructions into a pattern of electrical signals in binary code that are comprehensible to a digital computer. Output devices reverse the process, translating the digitized signals into a form intelligible to the user. Storage devices partake of the characteristics of the first two[1][6]. ## Examples of Input and Output Devices Input devices send data to the computer, while output devices receive data from the computer. Examples of input devices include keyboards, mice, webcams, microphones, and sensors that provide information about their environment. Examples of output devices include video display terminals, printers, loudspeakers, headphones, and devices that control machinery[1][6]. A keyboard is an input device that allows the user to input text and commands into a computer. An output device like a printer, on the other hand, prints out text and images from a computer onto paper. ## Advancements in Peripheral Technology Advancements in peripheral technology, such as virtual reality headsets or touchscreens, have revolutionized the way we interact with computers and other devices. Virtual reality headsets allow users to experience immersive environments, while touchscreens provide a more intuitive and interactive way of interacting with devices. These advancements have made it easier for users to engage with technology and have expanded the range of applications for computers and other devices[3]. ## Best Practices for Selecting and Using Peripheral Devices When selecting and using peripheral devices, it is important to consider the following best practices: - Research the device and read reviews before purchasing to ensure that it is compatible with your computer system and meets your needs. - Choose high-quality devices that are designed to last and provide the best performance. - Keep your peripherals up-to-date with the latest drivers and software updates to ensure optimal performance. - Take care of your peripherals by cleaning them regularly and storing them properly when not in use. - Use surge protectors to protect your peripherals from power surges and other electrical issues[4]. By following these best practices, you can ensure that your peripherals are compatible with your computer system and provide the best performance possible.
