Components of a computer and network
Workstation
A workstation is a computer intended for
individual use that is faster and more capable
than a personal computer. It is intended for
business or professional use.
It works with a
Video Card, located
inside the computer
case, to display
images and text on
the screen.
Monitor
It is composed of
buttons that create
letters, numbers, and
symbols, as well as
perform other
functions.
Keyboard
Commonly known
as a pointing device,
it lets you point to
objects on the
screen, click on
them, and move
them.
Mouse
The case that
contains all the main
parts of a computer.
System Unit
It is alternatively
referred to as an
auxiliary device, an
input device or
output device that
gives a computer
additional
functionality.
Peripherals
Computer
Peripherals are
classified into:
Input, Output and
Storage devices.
It is any hardware device that sends data
to a computer, allowing you to interact
with and control it.
Example: Keyboard, Mouse, Web
camera, Microphone, Scanner, Barcode
Reader
Input Devices
It is any peripheral that receives data from
a computer, usually for display,
projection, or physical reproduction.
Example: Printer, Headphones, Monitor,
Projector, Speaker
Output Devices
It is any type of computing hardware that
is used for storing, porting or extracting
data files and objects. It can hold and
store information both temporarily and
permanently.
Example: Flash Drive, CD/DVD,
Memory Card
Storage Devices
Network
A network is a collection of computers,
servers, mainframes, network devices,
peripherals, or other devices connected to
allow data sharing.
Network Devices
It is any hardware
device that is required
for physical or virtual
communication
between a computer
to another computer
or to any computer
network.
Computer
It is a programmable
device that can
store, retrieve, and
process data.
It is also referred as
CLIENT.
Server
It is a type of
computer on a
network that
manages
resources and
often plays
dedicated roles
and executes
processing for a
specific function.
Hub
It is the most basic
networking device
that connects
multiple computers
or other network
devices together.
Router
This device is
designed to receive,
analyze, and move
incoming packets to
another network.
Network Interface Card / NIC
It is an expansion
card that enables a
computer to connect
to a network or to
the internet.

  • 22. Network Devices It is any hardware device that is required for physical or virtual communication between a computer to another computer or to any computer network.
  • 23. Computer It is a programmable device that can store, retrieve, and process data. It is also referred as CLIENT.
  • 24. Server It is a type of computer on a network that manages resources and often plays dedicated roles and executes processing for a specific function.
  • 25. Hub It is the most basic networking device that connects multiple computers or other network devices together.
  • 26. Router This device is designed to receive, analyze, and move incoming packets to another network.
  • 27. Network Interface Card / NIC It is an expansion card that enables a computer to connect to a network or to the internet.
