• Therapeutic values.
• The flowers either fresh or dried are much used in
stews, soups, mixed with cheese, possets, broths
and drinks.
• The juice extracted from leaves is used for getting
relief from boils, carbuncles and earache.
• Floral extract is a good remedy for eye diseases and
ulcers.
5. ORIGIN
• Tagetes erecta is indigenous to Mexico and Guatemala
and most probably naturalized in the rest of Central
America and the western Andes of South America

DISTRIBUTION
• Tagetes erecta is widely cultivated all over the world
(including Africa and the Indian Ocean islands) as a
popular garden ornamental.
• It is cultivated commercially for its dye mainly in Latin
America; in Africa on a small scale in Zambia and
South Africa.
