Marigold has several therapeutic uses. The flowers, either fresh or dried, are used in soups, stews, and drinks to provide relief from boils, earaches, and eye diseases. While indigenous to Mexico and Guatemala, marigold is now widely cultivated around the world as an ornamental plant and for its dye, especially in Latin America, Zambia, and South Africa. Plants raised from seeds grow taller and yield more than other varieties.
