5. Hacksaw Ridge.
With the film Hacksaw Ridge there is a lot of pain and death. I chose these two
film posters as I believe they get that meaning across using the different
colours, props and framing.
Props.
In both posters they both use props that symbolise war and destruction. For
example in the first poster there is a helmet with and whole through it, this will
symbolise the gun shooting and killing friend and foe. This is also done in the
second on with the bullet hole but is not as effective. The second poster does
show more destruction to the surrounding areas. This can also show the power
of the war and the danger that will take place during the film. Finally they both
involve fire in their poster which can show the destruction.
Colours.
In both of the posters shown, they both have very dark and limited colours.
This set the dangerous mood for the film. Also by using these dark colours it
gives the sense of death. By not having a lot of light put into the posters, it
shows that it’s a very unhappy place that it is set and helps foreshadow the
pain and destruction. In the second poster it uses a lot of red for the fire which
draws attention to that and is the meaning for powerful weaponry that they
use for their attacks.
Framing.
In both posters they have adjusted the framing so that they could add more
details and meaning into it. For example, in the first poster they have added a
hole into the helmet to add the meaning of weapons but then that allowed
them to add the soldier in the middle. This gives more detail that it is a war
film. In the second poster they have added the helmet with the gun shot in it.
This is the main focus but they added the man running into the fire to show
danger and death and makes it stand out.

6. Red Dead Redemption 2.
The game, Red Dead Redemption 2 is a western themed violence game. In these posters it shows
the meaning of it through props, colours and characters. For starters, I know from both posters
that it is an adventurous game by the name title. The title is rugged and worn a little bit which
shows that it involves some fighting.
Colours.
In both posters they involve a lot of the colour red, mainly in the first poster. By having this high
level of red shows that it might be a dark and violent game. This can also interpret that the red is a
symbolism for blood and death as that is a dark and evil colour in this scenario. In the first poster
the orangey glow around the man on the horse shows that he might be a good character as he has
light surrounding him. By having this man inside the shadow of another man shows that they
might be rivals. In the second poster there is a large amount of golden yellow shows that there
might be a happy ending as it’s a warming colour. Also with the second poster, you have the main
large character seeing detail on him using the colours and just a black silhouette for the gang
showing that the larger character might be the leader of the 7 riders.
Props.
With this advert there is a few props to show what sort of game it is. First of all, on the second
poster at the very bottom you can see the stars for the American flag. This tells the buyer that it is
an American styled game. To look into the theme more you can look at the clothing that the people
are wearing. You can see that on the first poster the main figure is wearing a Stetson which shows
that it is a cowboy game. On the second poster, the figure has got a revolver in his hand and many
ammunition around his person. By having this revolver and ammunition shows that it is a shooting
game. We can also see what type of location it is set in as there is a silhouette of trees on the
second poster and a wasteland with a long path and trees on the first on. With the long path on
the first poster, it could infer that there is a ‘story path’ that you and your character has to follow to
complete the game.
Characters.
For starters with the second poster I can that something will happen which will make the main
character on the poster angry. This is shown by his facial expression and that he is violent by
aiming his gun. On the second poster this same man is larger than anyone else which shows that
he might be the leader of the 7 people riding horses. Or it could be that one character hunting down
the 7 riders which might be outlaws. With the first poster you have the main characters silhouette
with a lone rider with light around him. This can show that the larger character is bad as his is more
shaded and the other character is good as he is in the light. Also with the larger character he has a
bandana over his face which shows he might be an outlaw/ bandit, and is trying to hide his
identity.

7. Baby Driver.
The film, Baby driver, is a faster passed film that includes cars, violence and weaponry and revolves
around music which I have inferred from the Props, Framing and the colours from both posters.
Props.
With the second poster, you can see that there is an old iPod that is in the of a car. This shows that it
is a action car film, and also that it links to music. Linking the second poster to the first, you can see
that on of the actors with sunglasses at the back has earphones in, this increases the point that this
film includes a lot of music and that there might be a story line behind that for why there is so many
links to music. Also both the posters include the car as a main focus, that links to the name of
‘Driver’ in the title. This also infers that the film involves around cars and driving to be a main part in
the story line. Also with the first poster I can tell that its violent as there is a gun being aimed which
shows the danger and action in the film. A couple of the characters a wearing sunglasses which
might show that they are trying to hide part of there identity or trying not to be recognise.
Framing
From the framing of the first poster we can infer who might be the main characters in the film and
who isn’t as important. For starter I can see that the young male character with earphones in, might
be the main character as he is larger in frame than everyone else. To strengthen this point, the
female holding the fire arm is much smaller than the first male meaning the film focusses more on
him than on her. It also shows that the older fellow with sunglasses is also large so he also might be
a main character, this allows views to wonder if he is a rival or someone that helps the younger
male. Also with the first poster, they have added part of a city, this shows what sort of setting and
theme that the film is set in. The edited red car might be a significant symbol for the film as that
might be the main vehicle the lead role drives in. with the second poster it is a simple framed poster.
They have used a care in the centre which links to the driving in the film, and they have edited it to
look like an first generation IPod. This is so that they could add the earphones and link it too the
driving and the music that the film revolves a lot around.
Colours
Both posters shows different types of the colours. For example with the first poster there are lots of
bright colours to show that it isn’t a dark and depressing film. This is to allow it to look good for the
younger audience. These bright colours also makes the poster stand out more than others. With the
second poster, they use a dark background so that the white is more eye catching. This allows the
theme of music and cars to stand out more and allows people to pay more attention to it.
8. Soundtrack
■ Clip 1-
This clip sounds very sinister and sounds like
it is from a horror film. With the image it
gives the feeling that the two people have
found out something very bad. It suggests
that these might be the bad guys in the
story.
■ Clip 2-
This clip sound more cheerful and light
hearted. This could show that it is a funny
sort of film. Linking with the image to the
right, it be shown that the two characters
might have just planned something fun.
9. Shining
■ With this trailer for the shining, the creator has added
some effect and editing way to make it look like a romantic
comedy. The fact that there is cheerful and sort of romantic
music playing in the background does make me think that
it is a sweet and light hearted film.
■ The creator has also edited the advert in a way to show
how they ended up together. By showing both lives of the
two main characters shows a little about there lives. This is
good as it shows what paths they are on and makes it
special about how them paths meet.
■ By using specific words such as ‘love’ is a big impact as it
sets the mood and shows that it is a loving a caring film.
10. Scary Mary
■ With the advert for scary Mary, based of the film
Marry Poppins, the creator has used sound a editing
techniques to make the advert look like a horror film.
This has been done by the music used. In the advert
the music and looks are very sinister, dark and jumpy
giving it a creepy feeling.
■ Also by using non naturalistic techniques makes it
look scary and demonic.
