Lead. Responsible for managing all metering OPEX and CAPEX activities for all TSEUK offshore and onshore
installations and associated pipelines within the UK sector of the North Sea, comprising eleven offshore
installations, one oil terminal, various pipeline systems and 3rd party operated production facilities.
Responsibilities include: - Metering technical authority and focal point for all metering matters. Management of
metering support team, metering maintenance/support contracts and measurement audit contracts with full
measurement department budget responsibility of circa £4.5M. Represent TSEUK concerning hydrocarbon
measurement matters to third parties including Department of Energy and Climate Change (DECC), Norwegian
Petroleum Directorate (NPD) and other pipeline users and Operators. Ensure all hydrocarbon measurement
facilities are designed, maintained and operated in accordance with company standards, applicable engineering
and legislative standards and codes of practice. Initiation and development of proposals for improved
measurement and increased efficiency of existing metering facilities management. Explore and identify cost
saving measures through personnel and equipment rationalisation, the introduction of new technology and
working practices and the development of a common measurement approach across the whole Company.

engineering check of both engineering and drawing office deliverables, guidance and supervision of Graduate
Engineers. Responsible for providing engineering support to both construction and commissioning phases of
the Project.

rationalising the existing I/O, new system design using Modicon PLC hardware and Honeywell SCAN 3000
graphic interface, equipment specification, requisitioning, PLC programming using Concept V2.1 software and
testing of the PLC control systems and graphic interface. Supervision of offshore construction crew, system
commissioning and handover to Conoco Operations.

Consultant to the Shell Central Business Unit under an Integrated Services Contract (ISC) covering the
following installations: Fulmar Alpha, Auk Alpha, Kittiwake, Gannet and Anasuria FPSO.
Member of the Instrument/Fire & Gas team initially in the position of Senior Instrument engineer, promoted to
Principal Instrument Engineer and then Lead Instrument Engineer during this time. Authorised as Instrument
Design Authority for the ISC. Responsible for all Instrument design approvals and the day-to-day management
of a team of Instrument Engineers and Designers. Shell Central Business Unit ISC “Year 2000” Focal Point for
all Business Unit specific Instrumentation & Control “Year 2000” issues. Additional roles included bid
preparation, bid evaluation, feasibility, conceptual, detailed design and engineering requirements for change
proposals (CP's) for various additions, modifications and upgrades of the Central Field Installations. This
involved the preparation of Feasibility & Conceptual Design Books, Equipment Specifications, Data Sheets and
material requisitions, Detailed Design Books, Vendor Work Scopes, Shutdown Tie-in Packages and project
man-hour and cost estimates.
Function:
• Approve all instrument department drawings and documentation.
• Focal point for instrumentation problems, questions, queries and “Year 2000” compliance work.
• Provide technical direction to the instrument design engineers and drawing office.
• Provide CTR estimates for instrument department work.
• Provide engineering input to design projects, instruction and guidance to the Drawing Office and
engineering support for the Commissioning, Development, Implementation, Integrity and Maintenance
groups within the ISC.
Designs were progressed from initial offshore survey, through detailed design and development to engineering
support for the installation and commissioning phases to project closeout.
Activities also included taking an active part in HAZOP & Design Safety Reviews, environmental reviews, client
project meetings, vendor "kick-off" and progress meetings, review and approval of vendor documentation.

Consultant to the Artificial Lift Consortium carrying out work for the BP Forties Field platforms.
Part of a Project Team responsible for the preparation of bids, bid evaluations, conceptual/detailed design and
engineering requirements for the Forties Field Platforms. Responsibilities included review of existing design,
preparation of new design and associated documentation including equipment specifications and data sheets,
review of vendor documentation, preparation of construction work packs, and design specifications.
Projects include the upgrade of field pipeline riser valve installations (ESDV's) to meet the requirements of SI-
1029, design of produced water injection on-line flow monitoring system, electrical utilities isolation via ESD
system.
AMOCO (UK) LTD., ABERDEEN Dec 1982 - Apr 1990

Working for Amoco (UK) Ltd, assigned to Amoco (UK) Exploration Co. Ltd working in the Aberdeen office and
on the following offshore installations: North West Hutton, Montrose Alpha and Arbroath Alpha Oil & Gas
Production Platforms.
Member of a team responsible for the design, installation, commissioning and maintenance required for
modification to and installation of various instrumentation, control and metering systems. This involved
preparation of feasibility studies, conceptual design, detailed work scope description, bulk material schedules,
project costing, vendor liaison and vendor bid appraisal. Other duties included the responsibility for
shutdown/maintenance work planning, and work as relief Offshore Installation Manager.
Held specific technical discipline responsibility for hydrocarbon gas and liquid measurement systems. Acted as
focal point for the Metering Services Contractor ‘ICE’ (now Metco Services), who provided metering systems
maintenance and data validation. Managed modifications/upgrades to existing metering systems and the
maintenance of metering technical procedures. Represented Amoco during DTI inspectors Technical Audits of
facilities Metering Systems.
Projects included :
- Expansion of platform Water Injection metering system.
- New Platform Artificial Lift gas flow metering system (24 wells).
- New PC based SCADA system for both fiscal and non-fiscal platform metering systems.
- Upgrade of fuel gas and test separator gas flow metering systems for improvement of Platform mass
balance reporting.
- Wellhead condition remote monitoring system for a 40 well slot installation.
