From the Head Teacher– Ms Sue Hill
Dear Parents,
Many events took place at the TX campus this week including the TXtravaganza,
our annual summer concert. Mr Robbie did a wonderful job of bringing together our
TX musicians and choirs in a lively concert on Wednesday evening. Apart from the
two choirs and orchestra, the audience were entertained by the string group and
brass ensemble, the chamber choir and solo performances from Andrew Vu and Yu
Gyeong Kang. Congratulations to all our performers who worked incredibly hard in
their clubs this term. Thank you to Mr Robbie, Ms Heather, Ms Alice, Mr Mike and
Ms Julia for their hard work in preparing the children for the concert.
On Thursday morning, in was the turn of our Foundation Stage children as they performed on the stage in
their summer production, ‘Let’s Get Fruity!”. The audience were amazed at the level achieved by our
youngest members of the TX campus. All the F3 children had speaking parts; they told the story of the
naughty animals who stole the fruit only to return it after some careful negotiation. Once again the
costumes were impressive, especially the Foundation Stage 1 and 2 children who dressed as animals,
and I must thank our talented teaching assistants for their wonderful creativity. The teachers too deserve
a great deal of praise for directing our young actors and actresses; not forgetting Mr Robbie who has
been working with the children during their music sessions.
Other events this week include the maths tournament held at BVIS and the LAMDA acting exams held at
the An Phu Secondary Campus. I must congratulate the teams of children involved.
Sustainability was the focus of our assembly today. Year 5 explained how and why we must save our
planet including the animals. One such animal, the endangered pygmy loris has been a focus of research
for the Year 5 children. They are aiming to raise money to donate to the EAST project to build an
enclosure to help rehabilitate the lorises which are saved from captivity. All parents are welcome to visit
the Rainforest Café in the foyer next week which is being organised by Year 3. On sale at the café will be
some of the EAST merchandise.
I would like to finally say a big thank you to our TX parents for inviting me to afternoon tea at Villa Song
last Saturday. I was overwhelmed by the lovely flowers and kind comments made by parents and
children.

Milepost 3 Speech Contest
Dear Parents,
On the evening of Tuesday June 16th, from 6pm to 7.15pm, we will be hosting the TX
Campus Annual Speech Contest!
It was a fantastic event last time around so we hope you will all be able to come along and
enjoy it this time, too.
The Milepost 3 students have all been working hard on their speeches, and ten brave finalists
will be chosen to perform on the night itself.
Please come to support all of the children involved. There will also be musical interludes and
brief talks by guest judges.
Refreshments will be provided.

Reports
Your child will bring home their end of year report today.
The reports give detailed feedback on progress made during the year and achievement compared to the
UK averages. If your child is achieving a grade ‘B’ then they are performing within the average band. A
few of our children are achieving at a very high level, especially in maths and these pupils have achieved
a grade ‘A’.
Many children who are acquiring English language skills will still be working at a level which is below
average as the average level is determined by achievements in the UK, where the majority of children are
native English speakers.
The Newsletter is Changing
The BIS HUB has proved popular with parents and students for sharing articles on school life, news,
events and notices. So, from next week, we are going to stop using the old format of newsletter and use
the BIS HUB instead.
Throughout the week, articles will be uploaded as a post on the BIS HUB (instead of as a page on the
newsletter). On Friday, Ms Sue will post a weekly update in the News section and include within that the
links to the articles from the week. Parents will be sent an email on Friday afternoon exactly like you are
now, with a link to the Head’s weekly update like this: http://www.bisvietnam.com/blog/ms-sue-hill-weekly
-update-5th-june/ which will include hyperlinks to all the articles on the BIS HUB for that week.

EYFS Summer Concert

The TXstravaganza
On Wednesday evening, after weeks of rehearsing and preparation, TX hosted
its annual summer concert – the TXstravaganza. This wonderful concert
featured fabulous performances by Milepost 1 Choir, String Group, TX
Orchestra, Brass Group, Chamber Choir, Milepost 2 & 3 Choir and solo
performances by Yu Gyeong Kang (6X) on the cello and Andrew Vu (5T) on the
saxophone. The concert was concluded with an arrangement of The Carpenters
famous song ‘Sing’, performed by the orchestra and both choirs together.
Thank you very much to all the teachers who helped organise this concert, in
particular Mr Mike, Ms Heather, Ms Alice and Ms Julia. Thank you also to Ms
Michelle for taking fantastic photos of the event.
I was very proud of the children who performed amazingly. This was my final
music concert at TX, and it will be one I definitely remember for a long time.
The concert was filmed, and DVDs will be available from the TX office
very soon.

Maths Competition
On Tuesday morning two teams of students from Year 5 and 6 ventured over to
BVIS to compete in the UKMT mathematics competition. The children needed to
combine all their mathematical know how to solve many different puzzles in both
individual and team challenges. Our Year 6’s proved to be very strong in the
logic round, whilst our Year 5’s triumphed during the speed test.
Both teams performed very and an enjoyable morning was had by all.
