1. Hypertext – It means text stored in electronic form with cross-reference links
between pages.
2. Hypertext Transfer Protocol (HTTP) – It is used to access any website. It
transfers web pages from the web browsers to a specific website.
3. Web browser – A web browser is a computer program that interprets HTML
commands to collect, arrange, and display the parts of a web page.
4. Hypertext Markup Language (HTML) – HTML is a language for describing
how pages of text, graphics, and other information are organized, formatted, and
linked together.
Basic internet tools –
1. File Transfer Protocol (FTP) – used to transfer files from one computer to
another where those are in the same network. FTP is also used to upload files.
2. World Wide Web (www) – it is a client-server application program that transfers
texts, graphics, and sound files through HTTP.
3. Telnet – a network protocol that allows a user of one computer to log into another
which is a part of the same network.
4. Gopher – it is an application layer protocol designed for distributing, searching
and retrieving documents or text files over the internet.
5. E-mail – exchange of computer stored messages by telecommunication or any
electronic means via a network.
Difference between HTTP and FTP –
1. HTTP is used to view websites. FTP is used to access and transfer files.
2. HTTP is used by all people who surfs internet whereas FTP is by those who
maintains websites.
3. HTTP’s client is the browser. FTP can be accessed by command lines or a
graphical client of its own.
