Editor's Notes

  1. Extended from the English Channel to the border of Switzerland
  2. The gas harmed the nose, throat and lungs…made whole armies temporarily helpless in the face of enemy attacks Called mustard gas Most feared and common gas on the battlefield Gas mask was developed
  3. The machine gun also invented…machine guns were synchronized with the airplane’s propellers…before this, pilots could not fire their guns without shooting their own propellers
  4. Unterseeboot (under sea boat)
  5. US sent over 250,000 troops to France EVERY month
