2019

Introduction
 Dengue is a viral disease
 Dengue Fever is a severe, flu-like illness
 It is transmitted by the infective bite of
Aedes Aegypti mosquito
 Man develops disease after 5-6 days of
being bitten by an infective mosquito
named Aedes.
Fig: Aedes Mosquito
Dengue occurs in two forms:
 Dengue Fever
 Dengue Haemorrhagic Fever(DHF)
Dengue Haemorrhagic Fever (DHF) is a more severe form of
disease, which may cause death. In 2019 , more people are affected
by DHF in Dhaka city which is the main reason for the breakthrough
Fig: % of breeding sources of Dengue in Dhaka
Monsoon Aedes Survey 2019
• 100 sites of 98 wards in 2 city
corporations surveyed and the
following Density map of the
potential breeding sources of
Aedes mosquitos in Dhaka City
was produced
 57% & 64% of total wards in
DNCC & DSCC have BI>=20
 75% & 83% of total wards in
DNCC & DSCC have HI>=5
Breteau index (BI): number of
positive containers per 100 houses
inspected.
***As there is huge population
movement around, the lower BI in
any place doesn't necessarily
mean lower risk of getting affected
in that place.
Extended Aedes survey in public places
Latest Dengue Situation in Dhaka City
 76% of total admitted patients released to home
 Downtrend in new admission observed at the end of this week
 Ratio of new admission and released patients 54:46 in this week
 Huge population movement caused case uptrend outside Dhaka
 However, 66% of total outside Dhaka cases released to home
