2. The importance of training and labor force in
the Mediterranean Hospitality sector

Now days in every hospitality business, it is all about competence in employee, and
especially the employee’s qualities. Quality of service depends on the qualities of
employees.
The qualities are about knowledge, skills and thoughts which lead to a hotel’s
survival and development. training is essential in many ways which increases
productivity while employees are armed with professional knowledge, experienced
skills and valid thoughts; staff training also motivates and inspires workers by
providing employees all needed information in work as well as help them to
recognize how important their jobs are. Training and development can be seen as a
key instrument in the implementation of Hospitality practices and policies.

development strategy”.

Dr Larry Yu is professor of Hospitality Management in the Department of Management,
School of Business, the George Washington University.
He has been involved in international hospitality development and education since 1979. His
teaching and research interests focus on international hotelmanagement, particularly on
strategic management, knowledge management, leadership, human capital development,
management innovation and corporate culture.
Dr. Yu is the author or editor of many well-known books in The International Hospitality
Business such as :
Management and Operations , Tourism in China , Heritage Management, Tourism, and
Governance in China: Managing the Past to Serve the Present.
He also has published over 50 research articles on international tourism and hôtel
development and management. He also serves on the editorial boards of many hospitality ,
education tabloids.
Dr. Yu consults with government agencies, public and private international organizations

Mr DEJARDIN is advisor at the International Organization of Employers,
which
represents more than 150 national federations of employers through the
world and
which is recognized as the voice of the companies in the international
forums focusing on social and labor issues.
He coordinates the participation of employers’ representatives – especially
in the hotels sector – in tripartite sectorial meetings ( with governmental and
unions representatives )of the International Labor Office (ILO).
5. Mr Jorge Juan Busquets has been devoted exclusively to the professional world
of travel & tourism for 40 years, having taken actions in both the public and
private sectors in the field of international consulting and in the
academic world.
He is currently the Advisor of the Argentine Business Federation of Hotels and
Restaurants He was elected Vice President of IHRA in 2013; and finally in October
2015 was invited to be a Special Advisor of World Tourisme Organisation General
Secretary.
He has been working since the year 2003 – in representation of the Argentine
Chamber of Tourism - as Vice President of the Board of the WTO Affiliate Members
and Vice Regional Chairman of the Business Council of WTO.
6. Our last Guest is Mr JOSEP VALLS .
He is professor in ESADE’s Department of Marketing Management. In 1990 He founded
the Tourism Management Centre (CEDIT), and was its Director until September 2004.
After a professional life devoted the management of newspaper companies, he has
spent over twenty years linked to the marketing and tourism industry as a professor,
As Researcher (related to brands and prices , online commercialisation of tourism..etc)
As writer (he is the author of several books regarding price structuring, marketing,
tourism strategy and management)
And as consultant.(he has collaborated with many institutions such as the Spanish
Institute for Foreign Trade,the Spanish High Council of Chambers of Commerce and the
Autonomous Government of Catalonia
Mr VALLS is Vice-Chairman of the Spanish Association of Scientific Experts in Tourism
(AECIT) and a member of its European counterpart, AIEST.
