3. Antagonist:
From researching into different camera shots in terms of the killer, the most
commonly used shots are low angle long shots, medium close ups and closeups.
This makes the killer appear much taller and more dominating: adding to their power
over their victims. Furthermore, the use of a low angle shot allows for the audience
to be in the position of the victim, allowing them to conform with the protagonist. The
use of a long shot allows us to see the full image of the antagonist, we can see his
bold stance and his costume. This is exciting for the audience as we feel we have an
insight into the killer as if we were the protagonists. The use of close ups allow us to
see the unique design of the mask allowing us to see up close the true horror of their
mask.
We will be using this as inspiration when it comes to constructing both our trailer and
poster as we want to make our antagonist appear as striking and big as possible to
scare our audience.
4. Ideas For Trailer:
This particular low angle shot of Jason
will be used as inspiration for the
construction of our trailer during the
montage. He appears violent and
dominating as he looks down at the
camera to scare the audience, as if he
were to attack us.
6. Victims:
The most commonly used shot types in trailers and slasher films to highlight the
female victims are usually high angle shots. This is to make them appear
vulnerable and weak, the camera looking down on them represents the eyes of
the killer looking over them. It could also symbolise how society view women, as
many of them are looked down on as they are seen to be over sexualised in the
media.
Close ups are also used to highlight their fear. These shots also reveal them
crying and screaming as they fear for their life. This adds to the anticipation and
fright for the audience as we understand she is not going to survive.
7. Establishing shots:
To open our trailer we will be using an establishing shot, as it is a convention of slasher trailers to open
with one, revealing the setting in which the killings will happen. This gives an insight to the audience
straight away as to where the gruesome attacks will be happening. We will be using a pan movement
of the camera to highlight this as it allows the setting to be seen in more detail.
8. Over The Shoulder Shots:
Slashers also tend to use over the shoulder shots to weaken the victims and make
them appear trapped. They are effective as it is often used alongside a high angle
shot to make the killer appear even more dominant. For example, the use of an
over the shoulder shot is used in the Nightmare On Elm Street trailer as Krueger
attacks one of the blonde female protagonists.
We will be using this as inspiration in the construction of our
trailer to ensure our killer appears fearful and dominant.
9. Montage:
During our montage in the trailer, we will ensure there are quick cuts to add to the
anticipation for the audience. The sharp quick cuts should mirror the heartbeat of
our audience and the characters in our narrative as they fear for their lives.
