This slides show gives anyone to understand about what is work study, the purpose of it and what is the major outcomes any one can achieve from this study. In work study, method study is very much important to relish the work study so how it can execute also brief in this presentation. After that the most important thing is productivity calculation.I brief how to make this also through in this presentation.
2. WORK STUDY
A system of assessing methods of working so as to achieve the maximum
output and efficiency.
Classifications of work Study
Time & Motion Study: For direct workmen
Activity Sampling : For indirect workmen
Method Study : Implement of new methods to enhance productivity
Objectives
Achieve Standard Man Hour (SMH).
Achieve Standard Output
Improve Productivity of machines, man & materials.
Eliminate wastages to increase production with less fatigue.
3. TIME & MOTION STUDY
Time Study is quantitative analysis Leading to establishing the time
standards whereas motion study is qualitative analysis leading to
establishment of time standard.
Procedure
Calculate the Net Available Time in a Shift/Day(N.A.T)
Cover all measurable work element from a particular section.
Decides the Unit of those working elements.
Observe unit/Shift & Normal min./unit.
Calculate Normal min./shift.
Determine the no. of Squad & Gang involved .
Calculate Normal man min.
4. CONT’D..
Calculate Cycle Time of that work element.
Cycle time can be conclude in two types
Normal Cycle time : In General cases i.e. when single operation goes on.
Controlling Cycle time: When Line Operation goes on.
***Line Operation
***Line Balancing
Calculate Standard Man Hour(SMH) with Relaxation allowances and
contingency allowances.
Calculate Standard output
Calculation of SMH/unit production
Calculate OMS(Output per Man Shift)
5. ACTIVITY SAMPLING
A technique in which a large number of observations are made over a
period of time of one group of machines, processes or workers.
Procedure
o Observe the no. of workmen engaged in a particular work.
o No. of active observation.
o No. of Idle observation.
o No. of forced Idle observation.
o Calculate Utilization %
o Calculate Idle %
o Calculate the workload.
o Calculate standard workload with standard relaxation allowances and
misc. Allowances.
o Calculate the Accuracy of the study.
6. METHOD STUDY
Method study is the process of subjecting work to systematic,
critical scrutiny to make it more effective and/or more efficient.
It is one of the keys to achieving productivity improvement.
Procedure
Select the job – on which method study is to be applied.
Gather information and record.
Examine the information critically.
Develop the most practical, economical and effective method by
considering real limitations of the situation.
Install the new method as standard practice.
7. PRODUCTIVITY INDICES (P.I)
The shift-wise standard hours of each individual in a Direct Group is calculated on the
basis of actual shift’s good output divided by the Output Norms. The cumulative monthly
standard hours for the individual divided by the actual monthly hours of the individual
gives the Labour Productivity for the individual and this is expressed as a percentage.
Mathematically, P.I. = (SMH Earned)*100/Total AMH
SMH: Standard Man Hours
AMH: Attendant Man Hours
Procedure
Collect last one year’s monthly production data from respective department.
Collect the total AMH(including normal & overtime hrs.)from Time office/Plant HR.
Calculate the SMH earned per month.
Calculate the P.I month wise for a particular section by following previous described
mathematical formula.
Similarly calculate the overall P.I for that particular section.
8. CONCLUSION
Do better planning for existing manpower.
Improvement of existing methods.
Increased productivity & operational efficiency.
Optimum utilisation of resources.
Cut down the inefficient motions.
Less Fatigue to the worker.
Set up Incentive schemes for workmen.
