Andrew’s expertise and passion lies in greenfield mining project development, utilising his 20 years’
experience in the mining industry to assist with design, cost estimation, execution and project management.
Andrew has significant technical experience in large, small and multi-pit open cut operations across a range
of commodities including iron ore, copper and gold.
Andrew’s career started with BHP Iron Ore in Newman, Western Australia in the mid 90’s followed by work
in Queensland, New South Wales, and consulting work in South Africa and Fiji. He has experience in both
operational roles as well as consulting and brings a range of skills and understanding to any project.
Andrew has held technical management roles since 2010 including project execution and project
management of greenfield projects over $120M.

After completing the project execution/construction phase Andrew continued on as
the Technical Services Manager, responsible for all technical aspects of the Mt
Margaret operation including Geology, Geotechnical, Mine Planning, Mine
Engineering, Surveying and Mining Systems. This project consisted of mining five
open pits separated by a 30km haul road. The focus of the Mt Margaret operation
was to supplement the Ernest Henry processing plant after the Ernest Henry Open
Cut Mine had finished, prior to the Ernest Henry UG reaching capacity. The ore was
mined using a conventional drill and blast, truck and shovel methods and hauled in
road trains across to the Ernest Henry Mine.

Andrew was responsible for the project execution of the Mount Margaret Mining
Project. This project was purchased from Exco Resources in June 2011 for $175M. As
the project was optimised on Exco’s business model this feasibility/design work had
to be redone from scratch. The project was also required to complete further
resource drilling, re-run the whittle optimisations, redesign all 5 pit and schedule the
ore delivery, all whilst designing the mines infrastructure (40km haul road,
communications, potable water, power, environmental surface water management
infrastructure, maintenance and office facilities, explosive compounds), whilst also
managing the cultural heritage clearances and artefact relocation, endangered
species management, Mining Lease approvals, land owner compensation, water
licencing, flora and fauna monitoring and tending the work and having it constructed
ready for mining commencement in July 2012. This work was completed on time and
within budget ($121M).

In March 2010 Andrew was appointed the Manager of Technical Services for the
Ernest Henry open cut mine. This role became increasingly challenging as the mine
neared completion. With pit slope angles being some of the steepest in the world
(IRA +65 Deg) and final pit depths of over 500m, many challenges were presented to
completing the pit on design. The mine was successfully completed in Dec 2011.
During this period as Mine Technical Services Manager, Andrew also took on the
responsibility for all underground mine technical functions for the Ernest Henry sub
level caving operation in an Acting Manager capacity.

Andrew was responsible for the Mine Planning functions of the EHM open cut mine

Andrew started as a surveyor doing grade control mark-ups, drill and blast set-outs, weekly volume pick-ups of
pit and stockpiles. He conducted the drill and blast design for Mt Whaleback, orebody 29 and 30 pits.
Andrew was responsible for drill and blast coordinating of drills and blasting contractors; establishment of
world’s best practice in drilling; optimisation of blast pattern design; the introduction and management of
Aquila GPS drill guidance and monitoring package.
He also gained experience with reactive ground hot hole blasting procedures; conducted job safety inspections
and audits; and contributed to weekly and monthly management meetings.
