LIVE PROJECT 1 : SALMA HYDEL DAM PROJECT, AFGHANISTAN (Indo Afghan Friendship Dam)
PROJECT PROFILE:
A project completely funded by Ministry of External Affairs, Government of India as a friendship gesture to help in
Reconstruction & Rehabilitation of Afghanistan.
TYPE OF DAM:
HIGH EARTH AND ROCK FILL DAM ; Height of Dam: 107.5 Mtr; Power Capacity: 3 X 14 MW = 42 MW and
IRRIGATION capacity, (about 75000 hectare )
CLIENT: WATER & POWER CONSULTANCY SERVICES LIMITED, INDIA. (WAPCOS)
PARTNER: SSJV Ltd, Bangalore
COST OF PROJECT: 1400 crores
SCOPE OF WORK: Hydro Mechanical, Power House, Penstock, Tailrace, Switchyard, Instrumentation Works and
Operation & Maintenance of Diesel Generating Sets.
 PROJECT PLANNING AND MANAGEMENT :
 Monitoring:
 Weekly & monthly progress reports & keeping track of the progress made as planned.
 Tracking the progress of the project with respect to Cost, Resource Deployment, Time Overruns, Quality
compliance & Manpower Planning to ensure timely execution of project.

2.  To analyse the gaps between planned vs actual construction schedule and highlight the areas needing
immediate attention for action of the project team
 Conducting Project review meetings for evaluating project progress reports & taking adequate corrective
actions if required, Preparation of Progress Reports
 Preparation of Cash Flow Charts (Both Inflow & Outflow), Developing financial projections, preparing budgets
and performing extensive project costing.
 Calculation of Escalation prices in accordance with indices and the contract
 Preparation of Interim Payment Certificates in accordance with Terms of payment of Contract.
 Planning of machinery/manpower/materials and money ;
 Management of Human Resources, their allocation as per requirement to be deputed to site.
 Quantification or estimate of requirement of steel (penstock steel liner, reinforcement steel, structural steel),
cement, Statement of weight of fabricated components, Reinforcement & Encasement Details of Penstocks &
Grouting operations etc.
 Preparation of MIS reports to assist Vice President & General Manager in resource utilization, monitoring of
works, productivity studies etc.
 Study of tender documents, tender Scrutiny, Bill of Quantities, General Conditions of Contract, Particular
Conditions of Contract in accordance with FIDIC documents, Technical Specifications, Commercial & Payment
Terms and tender drawings for Salma Dam Project, Afghanistan issued by WAPCOS.
 Preparation of Construction methodologies with support from the Design Team.
 Negotiation of terms of L/C with Client / Bank.
 Aware of INCO terms
 PROCUREMENT & EXECUTION :
 Finalisation & Inspection of Hydro Mechanical Items, Machineries and Bought out items.
 Handling project activities involving working out various requirements with respect to design, utilities,
Machines, Manpower & Monitoring of overall project operations for ensuring timely completion.
 Analyzing the Construction methodologies, Penstock fabrication & development drawings, Penstock
layout drawings, bifurcations, bends & reducer pieces, welding procedures, welding methods in
accordance with SFA 5.5, Hydrostatic shop testing, Ultrasonic testing, as per relevant standards &
codes.
 Inspection of High tensile plates & welding electrodes, among Client, Supplier & Third Party Inspection
Agency.
 Finalization of Vendors, Contractors, Consultants, Fabricators & Designers as per requirement of the
project.
 Dealing with Vendors/ Sub vendors for raw material, sub contracting a particular component of project etc.
 Procurement of Steel for steel liner, fabrication machinery, Raw material viz: welding electrodes,
cement, as per clients standards, etc.
 In process, have done correspondence, negotiations & finalization of deals with major international steel
manufacturers and their distributors.

3.  Coordination with site/client/consultants/vendors/Headquarters Departments on daily basis & keeping
Headquarters records updated.
 Finalization of Consultants and Preparation & issue of Purchase Orders / Work Orders of Consultants,
Designers, vendors related to Hydro mechanical Works, Penstock, Power House & Instrumentation Works
(both for exports & domestic, services & supply)
 Release of Payments to Contractors, Consultants, Designers & Vendors at site and Headquarters.
 Controlling & Monitoring from getting Letter of Invitation for workforce from Ministry of External Affairs to visa
processing to sending workforce at site.
 Ensuring that site operations are carried out smoothly with erection, commissioning & procurement operations.

PROJECT 2 : PORTABLE WATER SUPPLY SCHEME
PROJECT PROFILE : Gravity based water supply in Baney, Riaba and Malabo, Equatorial Guinea.
CLIENT : National Office of Planning and Follow-Up of Projects for Equatorial Guinea.
COST OF PROJECT : Euro 75 million
SCOPE OF WORK : A gravity based scheme was considered due to poor situation of power in the project area.
Special considerations were given to use to make the scheme simple and using locally available material and man-
power. The technique used is slow sand filteration technique.
 Site mobilization including establishment of site office, workshop, laboratory, procurement of heavy earth moving
machinery, construction equipment & raw material and deployment of skilled human resources & workforce.
