The RRU is a specialist unit required to respond to a directive from the
Department of Water and Sanitation (RSA) at short notice. The scope of

Unit Manager responsible for the Border Region of the Eastern Cape (RSA)
originally for Cahi de Vries until 2003, then after their merger with Ninham Shand
until 2009 and after a further incorporation into Aurecon, a technical director and
the Unit Manager for the same region, incorporating offices in East London and
Umtata, and comprising approximately 70 staff members.
In addition to the responsibilities of running a regional office which included all
aspects of management dealing with corporate governance, business
development, business planning, financial management, human resources, health
and safety, quality management and general office administration, Mr Landolt
continued working in the technical field throughout his tenure as Unit Manager.
The specific line management and technical work carried out by Mr. Landolt during
this period included the following:

Mr. Landolt had various roles on many projects during this period, a few of which

2009 –2013 Fort Beaufort Bulk Water Services Upgrading
This project (12000m³/day) encompasses a raw water river abstraction facility on
the Kat River, a new earth dam off-channel storage facility, both high and low lift
raw water transfer pump stations and associated distribution pipelines, a new
water treatment works and clear water storage and distribution facilities for the
town of Fort Beaufort in the Eastern cape, RSA..
Personal responsibilities on this project included:-
 Carrying out the feasibility study
 Liaison with Employer and statutory authorities
 Arranging for survey, the geotechnical investigation, environmental impact
assessment, water quality tests, licences for raw water abstraction,
impoundment and storage, wayleaves and servitudes etc.

2009 –2012 Idutywa East Regional Water Supply Scheme
This project provides for the supply of clear water to a rural area (c.300 sq.km) in
the Eastern Cape, RSA.
Personal responsibilities on this project included:-
 Preparing the Tender submission for the provision of consulting services
 Carrying out the feasibility study
 Liaison with Employer and statutory authorities
 Arranging for survey, the geotechnical investigation, environmental impact
assessment, water quality tests, licences for raw water abstraction,

2007 – 2010 Ncera Macadamia Bulk Water Supply
This project provides for the supply and storage of bulk raw water for the irrigation
of macadamia nut trees in the Ncera area, west of East London and included for
the inter-catchment transfer of raw water to a balancing dam serving the orchard.
The works include for the provision of the river abstraction pumpstation, pumps,
rising and gravity mains and the 50Ml storage dam. Mr Landolt was the project
director and had similar responsibilities to those outlined in the projects above.
2008 – 2012 Ngqamakwe Regional Water Supply Scheme
Ninham Shand as Lead Consultant in a joint venture partnership with Arcus Gibb,
Sontinga Consulting Services and Sizo Engineering & Management Services,
after a successful bid submission, were appointed to provide all engineering
services for the Ngqamakwe Regional Water Supply Project (c. 500 sq.km) for
Amathole District Municipality.
This rural project encompasses an inter-basin transfer scheme consisting of a
raw water river abstraction pump station, an off-channel storage facility, a raw
water transfer pump station and a rising main delivering to a new water treatment
works at Tsomo, the provision of a clear water pumps and a rising main
delivering to a new regional reservoir and thereafter the bulk distribution of water
to various reservoirs serving 118 villages in the region, together with the
reticulation of the villages.
Mr. Landolt was the project and design team leader responsible for delivering the
scope of services which included the initial feasibility study, the hydrological
assessment, geotechnical investigation, strategic environmental impact
assessment, detail design of the river abstraction pump station, the raw water
transfer pump station and pipelines including for water hammer analysis, the
design of the new water treatment works, clear water pump stations, rising
mains, storage reservoirs and both bulk and distribution pipework. Thereafter the
drawing up of tender documentation, adjudicating of tenders, arranging of
wayleaves, servitudes and environmental input assessment, contract
administration, provision of construction and of record drawings, quality control and
testing and commissioning.
2009 – 2011 Qongqotha (30Ml) and Berlin (6Ml) Reservoirs
This project consisted of the detail design of a post-tensioned 30 Ml and a
conventional reinforced concrete 6 Ml reservoir for Amatola Water.
Mr. Landolt acted as the project leader on this project and was responsible for all
aspects of the project from inception through to commissioning.
1993 – 2012 Mdantsane Urban Renewal/Services/Housing
Mdantsane is a town of some 300 000 inhabitants situated to the north-west of
East London. An urban renewal project was embarked upon in 1993 to upgrade
and rehabilitate the services in the area and Cahi De Vries/Ninham
Shand/Aurecon have since that date been involved on the following projects which
were all under Mr Landolt’s control.
The services provided included the following:
 Assisting the Buffalo City Municipality with project management of the Urban
Renewal Programme
 Development of 850 housing units in Manyano and Thembelishle
 An assessment of the condition and capacity of the bulk water supply
infrastructure, the water reticulation network, the sewer reticulation network
including the bulk outfall sewers and the water and wastewater treatment
works.
 Identifying and reporting on the rehabilitation required
 Modelling of the water reticulation network
 Identifying and reporting on the upgrade requirements.
 An assessment of the volume of unaccounted for water in the town
 Implementation of water conservation and demand management measures
 Project Management, Planning, design, drawing up of tender documentation,
adjudicating of tenders, arranging of wayleaves, servitudes and environmental
input assessments, contract administration, provision of construction and of
record drawings, quality control, testing and commissioning and generally
assisting the Employer with reports and other controls.

2002 – 2004 East London Industrial Development Zone
The East London Industrial Development Zone is situated to the south and east
of the city centre ideally sited between the harbour port of East London and the
airport.
The project includes for the upgrading of the arterial road links to and from the
national and provincial roads, the airport and harbour, and the development of
400 hectares of industrial land to a world class standard.
Of particular interest in the project were the studies carried out for traffic and
transportation due to the major impact that the IDZ would have in the area,
together with the approach by the Development Zone Corporation to the
institutional requirements, environmental and health and safety concerns.

1998 – 2001 Umtata Waste Water Treatment Works and Northern Sewers Upgrade
This project includes for the complete refurbishment of the 20,0 Mℓ/d waste water
treatment plant at Umtata and the construction of a 20kms of new outfall sewer
with pipe diameters varying from 350mm to 800mm dia.
Personal responsibilities on this project included:-
 Review of the planning, design criteria and proposals and providing overall
guidance to the project manager and his team.
1997-1998 Zwelitsha Water Tower
Personal responsibilities included the preparation of the feasibility study,
“architectural” design of several proposals for the tower, review of all the design
criteria, geotechnical assessment, drawing up tender documentation, adjudicating
of tenders, contract administration, provision of construction and of record
drawings, quality control, testing and commissioning.
1996-1997 New Sewer Reticulation and Wastewater Treatment Works – Cathcart
The project included for the upgrading of a “bucket” system at Cathcart in the
Eastern Cape to a conventional water-borne sewerage system and for the
planning, design and construction of a new activated sludge treatment plant.

1994-1996 Extension to Fort Jackson Industrial Area
The project provided for an 80 hectare extension to an existing industrial area in
Fort Jackson in the Eastern Cape, and included for the design and construction of
the roads, stormwater drainage, water supply and reticulation, sewer reticulation
and the electrical installation.
Personal responsibilities included :-

1993-1994 Bridge Over Buffalo River
The project provided for a new road and bridge access across the Buffalo River at
King William’s Town in the Eastern Cape.
The scope of services provided included for the feasibility study including for the
hydrological assessment, geotechnical investigation, detail design and thereafter
the drawing up of tender documentation, adjudicating of tenders, arranging of
wayleaves, servitudes and environmental impact assessment, contract
administration, provision of construction and of record drawings, quality control and
testing and commissioning.
1991-2011 Urban and Rural Development – General
More than 50 other individual projects were carried out during this period. The
projects ranged from new water supply schemes for towns and providing
engineering services to “greenfields” township developments of 2000-3000
housing sites through to relatively small projects.
Most of the work was for Municipalities and included for the planning, feasibility,
design, implementation of projects including for adjudicating of tenders, arranging
of wayleaves, servitudes and environmental impact assessment, contract
administration, provision of construction and of record drawings and quality control
for all types of work, including but not limited to provision of access roads and
bridges, urban streets, stormwater management, bulk water supply, storage,
treatment, distribution and demand management, sewer reticulation, outfall and
treatment, solid waste management, development of sports fields and stadia,
erosion control etc.
Earth Dam Experience
2005 – 2012 Bridle Drift Dam (Category III)
Mr Landolt’s most recent experience (2005-2012) has been on the Bridle Drift
Dam in East London, a major Category III dam providing for the bulk of East
London’s raw water storage needs. Mr Landolt has assisted in the regular and 5
yearly inspections required in terms of the Dam Safety Act and has been
responsible for identifying, and reporting on the remedial measures required to
upgrade the dam to conform with the recognised dam safety regulations and
thereafter to arrange and have the remedial works carried out on behalf of the
registered owner of the dam. The remedial works required have in the most part
been on the outlet works where all pipework and valves have been refurbished
and relining of the outlet pipe connecting the tunnel to the outlet tower. Minor
works have also been carried out to repair spalling concrete on the spillway.
2000 – 2003 Port St Johns Water Supply Scheme
This rural project (4000m³/day) encompasses an inter-basin transfer scheme
consisting of a raw water river abstraction pumpstation, an off-channel storage
facility, a raw water transfer pump station and various pipelines delivering to a
new water treatment works at Port St Johns in the Eastern Cape.
The scope of services provided included the initial feasibility study, the
hydrological assessment, geotechnical investigation, environmental impact
assessment, detail design of the river abstraction pump station, the water
treatment works, the earth embankment off-channel storage dam, the raw water
transfer pump station and pipelines including for water hammer analysis.
Thereafter the drawing up of tender documentation, adjudicating of tenders,
arranging of wayleaves, servitudes and environmental input assessment, contract
administration, provision of construction and of record drawings, quality control and
testing and commissioning.

 Design of on-channel raw water intake pumpstation
 Design of earth embankment dam and spillway

2002-2003 Koch Dams – Cathcart
Mr. Landolt assisted in the initial dam safety inspection and was responsible for
the inspection, drawing up the report and recommending the remedial works
required in terms of dam safety requirements, and tfereafter arranging and
having the Works carried out on behalf of the Employer. These included for
increasing the capacity of the spillway of both the upper and lower dams,
construction of toe-drains and measuring weirs and the repair of a slope failure in
the lower dam.
2003-2006 Jamestown Off-Channel Dam (Category II)
Mr Landolt has been involved in all aspects of the project including for the
feasibility study, planning and design of the proposed earth embankment off-
channel dam and spillway and thereafter having the works carried out on behalf
of the Employer.
The project includes for a river abstraction pumpstation, the off-channel storage
dam, a raw water transfer pipeline, water treatment plant and for clear water
distribution and storage facilities.
2000–2002 Raising of Sam Meyer Dam (Category II)
The project included for the raising of an existing earth embankment dam at
Cathcart in the Eastern Cape to augment the raw water storage capacity,
together with the implementation of the remedial measures required in terms of
the dam safety report submitted by Mr D Cahi.
Mr Landolt was intimately involved in this project and was responsible for the
investigation, planning and design of the raised structure.
The works included for raising the embankment dam by 3,1m and for the
construction of a new straight drop arch-buttress spillway together with other
associated works.
1994-1995 Anderson Dam, Dordrecht (Category III)
This project included for the construction of a new earth embankment dam and a
smaller transfer structure on an adjoining tributary.
Mr Landolt was involved in the design of the earth embankment dam and acted
as the Engineer’s Representative for the construction.
1984-1994 Earth Embankment Dams – Other
Mr Landolt also acted as Engineer’s Representative for the construction of new
earth embankment dams at Winburg and Clocolan, and was exposed to the
planning and design of similar dams at Marquard and Reitz.
Mr Landolt has also been involved in investigating the mode of failure of 3
substantial farm dams
Construction Mentoring
2004 – 2006 Eastern Cape Development Corporation – Kei Rail Project
The Eastern Cape Development Corporation provides finance for entrepreneurial
projects. As part of this service, the ECDC provides mentorship to previously
disadvantaged Contractor’s to enable them to advance their knowledge and
capability.
Mr Landolt is a registered Mentor and was appointed by the ECDC to provide
this mentorship on the Kei Rail Refurbishment Project. The project includes for
the refurbishment of the earthworks, stormwater drainage features and
structures, access roads, level crossings, the trackwork and fencing of 110kms of
track between Idutywa and Mthata in the Eastern Cape.
The mentor’s responsibilities included for
 Guiding and advising the Contractor in areas where skills need to be
improved and in particular developing the Contractor’s technical,
managerial, administrative and commercial knowledge
 Assisting the Contractor to set up and/or improve business system
Construction Monitoring
1985-1989 As mentioned under the earth dam section above, Mr. Landolt has had significant
experience acting as the Engineer"s representative (RE) on contracts involving the
construction of earth dams and associated works. Mr. Landolt also held the position of
Resident Engineer on a 20Ml/day extension to the Bloemfontein Wastewater Treatment
Works during this period.

In addition to the responsibilities of running a regional office which included all aspects of management dealing with corporate governance, business development, business planning, financial management, human resources, health and safety, quality management and general office administration, Mr Landolt continued working in the technical field throughout his tenure as Unit Manager. The specific line management and technical work carried out by Mr. Landolt during this period included the following: - Management of 6 Technical Directors - Providing mentorship to engineering and technical staff - Tendering for work on projects with values of $10 - $150 million. - Planning and design of institutional water supply schemes, including for raw water storage, raw water distribution, water treatment works, clear water storage reservoirs and clear water distribution - Planning and design of new Municipal Infrastructure including for roads, stormwater disposal, water treatment and reticulation, sewage treatment and reticulation, also on projects with value up to $ 100 million.
  • 3. - Planning and implementation of water conservation and demand management measures - Responsible for reviewing all water sector design and documentation issued - Contract administration and acting as the Engineer on projects with values up to $ 100 million. Mr. Landolt had various roles on many projects during this period, a few of which are recorded in detail below. 2009 –2013 Fort Beaufort Bulk Water Services Upgrading This project (12000m³/day) encompasses a raw water river abstraction facility on the Kat River, a new earth dam off-channel storage facility, both high and low lift raw water transfer pump stations and associated distribution pipelines, a new water treatment works and clear water storage and distribution facilities for the town of Fort Beaufort in the Eastern cape, RSA.. Personal responsibilities on this project included:-  Carrying out the feasibility study  Liaison with Employer and statutory authorities  Arranging for survey, the geotechnical investigation, environmental impact assessment, water quality tests, licences for raw water abstraction, impoundment and storage, wayleaves and servitudes etc.  Reviewing the feasibility study/planning and preparing the preliminary design and design reports  detail design of the river abstraction pump station, the earth embankment off-channel storage dam  detail design of the rising mains and gravity pipelines  detail design of the water treatment works  detail design of the clear water reservoirs  detail design of the clear water distribution mains  drawing up of tender and contract documentation  adjudication of Tenders  project management, including for management of the engineering site staff and contract administration acting as the Engineer  dealing with claims  overall responsibility for the project including for quality control, testing and commissioning of the works  quality management  health and safety  provision of construction and of record drawings,. 2009 –2012 Idutywa East Regional Water Supply Scheme This project provides for the supply of clear water to a rural area (c.300 sq.km) in the Eastern Cape, RSA. Personal responsibilities on this project included:-  Preparing the Tender submission for the provision of consulting services  Carrying out the feasibility study  Liaison with Employer and statutory authorities  Arranging for survey, the geotechnical investigation, environmental impact assessment, water quality tests, licences for raw water abstraction, impoundment and storage, wayleaves and servitudes etc.  Carrying out the feasibility study/planning and drawing up the necessary reports  detail design of the clear water reservoirs  detail design of the clear water distribution mains
  • 4.  drawing up of tender and contract documentation  adjudication of Tenders  project management, including for management of the engineering site staff and contract administration acting as the Engineer  overall responsibility for the project including for quality control, testing and commissioning of the works  quality management  health and safety  provision of construction and of record drawings,.Liaison with Employer and statutory authorities  Carrying out feasibility study/Planning  Review of Designs carried out by technical staff  Review of contract documentation  Safety 2007 – 2010 Ncera Macadamia Bulk Water Supply This project provides for the supply and storage of bulk raw water for the irrigation of macadamia nut trees in the Ncera area, west of East London and included for the inter-catchment transfer of raw water to a balancing dam serving the orchard. The works include for the provision of the river abstraction pumpstation, pumps, rising and gravity mains and the 50Ml storage dam. Mr Landolt was the project director and had similar responsibilities to those outlined in the projects above. 2008 – 2012 Ngqamakwe Regional Water Supply Scheme Ninham Shand as Lead Consultant in a joint venture partnership with Arcus Gibb, Sontinga Consulting Services and Sizo Engineering & Management Services, after a successful bid submission, were appointed to provide all engineering services for the Ngqamakwe Regional Water Supply Project (c. 500 sq.km) for Amathole District Municipality. This rural project encompasses an inter-basin transfer scheme consisting of a raw water river abstraction pump station, an off-channel storage facility, a raw water transfer pump station and a rising main delivering to a new water treatment works at Tsomo, the provision of a clear water pumps and a rising main delivering to a new regional reservoir and thereafter the bulk distribution of water to various reservoirs serving 118 villages in the region, together with the reticulation of the villages. Mr. Landolt was the project and design team leader responsible for delivering the scope of services which included the initial feasibility study, the hydrological assessment, geotechnical investigation, strategic environmental impact assessment, detail design of the river abstraction pump station, the raw water transfer pump station and pipelines including for water hammer analysis, the design of the new water treatment works, clear water pump stations, rising mains, storage reservoirs and both bulk and distribution pipework. Thereafter the drawing up of tender documentation, adjudicating of tenders, arranging of wayleaves, servitudes and environmental input assessment, contract administration, provision of construction and of record drawings, quality control and testing and commissioning. 2009 – 2011 Qongqotha (30Ml) and Berlin (6Ml) Reservoirs
  • 5. This project consisted of the detail design of a post-tensioned 30 Ml and a conventional reinforced concrete 6 Ml reservoir for Amatola Water. Mr. Landolt acted as the project leader on this project and was responsible for all aspects of the project from inception through to commissioning. 1993 – 2012 Mdantsane Urban Renewal/Services/Housing Mdantsane is a town of some 300 000 inhabitants situated to the north-west of East London. An urban renewal project was embarked upon in 1993 to upgrade and rehabilitate the services in the area and Cahi De Vries/Ninham Shand/Aurecon have since that date been involved on the following projects which were all under Mr Landolt’s control. The services provided included the following:  Assisting the Buffalo City Municipality with project management of the Urban Renewal Programme  Development of 850 housing units in Manyano and Thembelishle  An assessment of the condition and capacity of the bulk water supply infrastructure, the water reticulation network, the sewer reticulation network including the bulk outfall sewers and the water and wastewater treatment works.  Identifying and reporting on the rehabilitation required  Modelling of the water reticulation network  Identifying and reporting on the upgrade requirements.  An assessment of the volume of unaccounted for water in the town  Implementation of water conservation and demand management measures  Project Management, Planning, design, drawing up of tender documentation, adjudicating of tenders, arranging of wayleaves, servitudes and environmental input assessments, contract administration, provision of construction and of record drawings, quality control, testing and commissioning and generally assisting the Employer with reports and other controls. The following Contracts for which these and other services were provided either in whole or in part include the following:- New Bulk Water Supply Pipelines (400mm dia.-600mm dia.) New R.C.Clear Water Reservoirs (6 No) Provision of Rudimentary Services to Informal Settlements Supply and Installation of Fire Hydrants in Mdantsane Supply and Installation of Pressure Management Supply and Installation of District/Zonal Water Meters Leak Detection Leaks Repair and Maintenance Replacement of life-expired Pipes Sealing of Reservoirs Replacement of Pumpsets New Township Development (civil services and housing) New Interceptor Sewers including for Inverted Sewer Syphons Replacement of Sewers Refurbishment of 300 Sewer Pipe Bridges (150mm dia. – 1050mm dia.) 2002 – 2004 East London Industrial Development Zone The East London Industrial Development Zone is situated to the south and east of the city centre ideally sited between the harbour port of East London and the airport.

The project includes for the upgrading of the arterial road links to and from the national and provincial roads, the airport and harbour, and the development of 400 hectares of industrial land to a world class standard. Of particular interest in the project were the studies carried out for traffic and transportation due to the major impact that the IDZ would have in the area, together with the approach by the Development Zone Corporation to the institutional requirements, environmental and health and safety concerns. Personal responsibilities included :- Liaison with local authorities Design team leader responsible for:  Arterial roads  Internal roads  Stormwater drainage  Attenuation dams  Sewer Reticulation  Sewer outfall and pumpstation  Water reticulation  Minor structures 1998 – 2001 Umtata Waste Water Treatment Works and Northern Sewers Upgrade This project includes for the complete refurbishment of the 20,0 Mℓ/d waste water treatment plant at Umtata and the construction of a 20kms of new outfall sewer with pipe diameters varying from 350mm to 800mm dia. Personal responsibilities on this project included:-  Review of the planning, design criteria and proposals and providing overall guidance to the project manager and his team. 1997-1998 Zwelitsha Water Tower Personal responsibilities included the preparation of the feasibility study, “architectural” design of several proposals for the tower, review of all the design criteria, geotechnical assessment, drawing up tender documentation, adjudicating of tenders, contract administration, provision of construction and of record drawings, quality control, testing and commissioning. 1996-1997 New Sewer Reticulation and Wastewater Treatment Works – Cathcart The project included for the upgrading of a “bucket” system at Cathcart in the Eastern Cape to a conventional water-borne sewerage system and for the planning, design and construction of a new activated sludge treatment plant. Personal responsibilities on this project included:-  Liaison with Employer and statutory authorities  Carrying out feasibility study/planning  Design team leader  Drawing up of contract documentation  Contract administration  Project management 1994-1996 Extension to Fort Jackson Industrial Area The project provided for an 80 hectare extension to an existing industrial area in Fort Jackson in the Eastern Cape, and included for the design and construction of
  • 7. the roads, stormwater drainage, water supply and reticulation, sewer reticulation and the electrical installation. Personal responsibilities included :-  Design team leader responsible for:  Arterial roads  Internal roads  Stormwater drainage including attenuation dams  Internal servicing  Sewer outfall and pumpstation  Internal water reticulation  Minor structures  Project management 1993-1994 Bridge Over Buffalo River The project provided for a new road and bridge access across the Buffalo River at King William’s Town in the Eastern Cape. The scope of services provided included for the feasibility study including for the hydrological assessment, geotechnical investigation, detail design and thereafter the drawing up of tender documentation, adjudicating of tenders, arranging of wayleaves, servitudes and environmental impact assessment, contract administration, provision of construction and of record drawings, quality control and testing and commissioning. 1991-2011 Urban and Rural Development – General More than 50 other individual projects were carried out during this period. The projects ranged from new water supply schemes for towns and providing engineering services to “greenfields” township developments of 2000-3000 housing sites through to relatively small projects. Most of the work was for Municipalities and included for the planning, feasibility, design, implementation of projects including for adjudicating of tenders, arranging of wayleaves, servitudes and environmental impact assessment, contract administration, provision of construction and of record drawings and quality control for all types of work, including but not limited to provision of access roads and bridges, urban streets, stormwater management, bulk water supply, storage, treatment, distribution and demand management, sewer reticulation, outfall and treatment, solid waste management, development of sports fields and stadia, erosion control etc. Earth Dam Experience 2005 – 2012 Bridle Drift Dam (Category III) Mr Landolt’s most recent experience (2005-2012) has been on the Bridle Drift Dam in East London, a major Category III dam providing for the bulk of East London’s raw water storage needs. Mr Landolt has assisted in the regular and 5 yearly inspections required in terms of the Dam Safety Act and has been responsible for identifying, and reporting on the remedial measures required to upgrade the dam to conform with the recognised dam safety regulations and thereafter to arrange and have the remedial works carried out on behalf of the registered owner of the dam. The remedial works required have in the most part been on the outlet works where all pipework and valves have been refurbished and relining of the outlet pipe connecting the tunnel to the outlet tower. Minor works have also been carried out to repair spalling concrete on the spillway.
  • 8. 2000 – 2003 Port St Johns Water Supply Scheme This rural project (4000m³/day) encompasses an inter-basin transfer scheme consisting of a raw water river abstraction pumpstation, an off-channel storage facility, a raw water transfer pump station and various pipelines delivering to a new water treatment works at Port St Johns in the Eastern Cape. The scope of services provided included the initial feasibility study, the hydrological assessment, geotechnical investigation, environmental impact assessment, detail design of the river abstraction pump station, the water treatment works, the earth embankment off-channel storage dam, the raw water transfer pump station and pipelines including for water hammer analysis. Thereafter the drawing up of tender documentation, adjudicating of tenders, arranging of wayleaves, servitudes and environmental input assessment, contract administration, provision of construction and of record drawings, quality control and testing and commissioning. Personal responsibilities on this project included:-  Liaison with Employer and statutory authorities  Carrying out feasibility study/Planning  Design team leader  Design of on-channel raw water intake pumpstation  Design of earth embankment dam and spillway  Design of Water Treatment Works  Drawing up of contract documentation  Contract administration 2002-2003 Koch Dams – Cathcart Mr. Landolt assisted in the initial dam safety inspection and was responsible for the inspection, drawing up the report and recommending the remedial works required in terms of dam safety requirements, and tfereafter arranging and having the Works carried out on behalf of the Employer. These included for increasing the capacity of the spillway of both the upper and lower dams, construction of toe-drains and measuring weirs and the repair of a slope failure in the lower dam. 2003-2006 Jamestown Off-Channel Dam (Category II) Mr Landolt has been involved in all aspects of the project including for the feasibility study, planning and design of the proposed earth embankment off- channel dam and spillway and thereafter having the works carried out on behalf of the Employer. The project includes for a river abstraction pumpstation, the off-channel storage dam, a raw water transfer pipeline, water treatment plant and for clear water distribution and storage facilities. 2000–2002 Raising of Sam Meyer Dam (Category II) The project included for the raising of an existing earth embankment dam at Cathcart in the Eastern Cape to augment the raw water storage capacity, together with the implementation of the remedial measures required in terms of the dam safety report submitted by Mr D Cahi.
  • 9. Mr Landolt was intimately involved in this project and was responsible for the investigation, planning and design of the raised structure. The works included for raising the embankment dam by 3,1m and for the construction of a new straight drop arch-buttress spillway together with other associated works. 1994-1995 Anderson Dam, Dordrecht (Category III) This project included for the construction of a new earth embankment dam and a smaller transfer structure on an adjoining tributary. Mr Landolt was involved in the design of the earth embankment dam and acted as the Engineer’s Representative for the construction. 1984-1994 Earth Embankment Dams – Other Mr Landolt also acted as Engineer’s Representative for the construction of new earth embankment dams at Winburg and Clocolan, and was exposed to the planning and design of similar dams at Marquard and Reitz. Mr Landolt has also been involved in investigating the mode of failure of 3 substantial farm dams Construction Mentoring 2004 – 2006 Eastern Cape Development Corporation – Kei Rail Project The Eastern Cape Development Corporation provides finance for entrepreneurial projects. As part of this service, the ECDC provides mentorship to previously disadvantaged Contractor’s to enable them to advance their knowledge and capability. Mr Landolt is a registered Mentor and was appointed by the ECDC to provide this mentorship on the Kei Rail Refurbishment Project. The project includes for the refurbishment of the earthworks, stormwater drainage features and structures, access roads, level crossings, the trackwork and fencing of 110kms of track between Idutywa and Mthata in the Eastern Cape. The mentor’s responsibilities included for  Guiding and advising the Contractor in areas where skills need to be improved and in particular developing the Contractor’s technical, managerial, administrative and commercial knowledge  Assisting the Contractor to set up and/or improve business system Construction Monitoring 1985-1989 As mentioned under the earth dam section above, Mr. Landolt has had significant experience acting as the Engineer"s representative (RE) on contracts involving the construction of earth dams and associated works. Mr. Landolt also held the position of Resident Engineer on a 20Ml/day extension to the Bloemfontein Wastewater Treatment Works during this period.
