(PPRC)
Compiled by the pharmacopoeia commission of the Ministry of Health of the Peoples Repuplic
of China
Is an official compendium of drugs ,covering traditional Chinese and western mediciences
Which includes information on the standards of purity , description , test , dosage , precaution ,
storage , and the strength for each drug
Recognised by the World Health Organization as the official Chinese pharmacopoeia

5. 1. Content
 It Comes in four volumes for both the Chinese and the English version
a) Volume –I ; Traditional Chinese Medicine
b) Volume – ii; Chemical Medicine
c) Volume –iii ; Biological Preparations
d) Volume –iv ; General Rules and Common Inactive Ingridients
 Vol- I contains monograohs of Chinese material medica ( a genus of flowering plants ) , Chinese
traditional patent medicine ,single ingredient of Chinese crude drug preparation
 Vol-ii deals with monographs of chemical drugs ,antibiotic ,biochemical preparation ,
radiopharmaceuticals and excipients for pharmaceutical use
 Vol-iii contains biological products

6. 2.History
In 1950 , the Pharmacopoeia committee fromed by Ministry of Health of China to formulate it
And in 1953 first edition of Chinese pharmacopoeia was issused
And Chinese pharmacopoeia of 1997 of both version either English or Chinese consists two
volume . They are ;
1.vol-I : herbal medicine
2. vol-ii : western medicine
And third volume was added in 2005

8. UPDATE
Latest edition of Chinese pharmacopoeia is Pharmacopoeia of the peoples Repulic of China
Upto now there are ten editions of it has been pulished
It started published since 1953 although committee was formed in 1950
First update of it was made in 1963 at the interval of ten years
And second update was done in 1977 at the interval of fourteen years
Then third update was done in 1985 at interval of eight years
And then after udate is done in every five years
