1. The Using of Suffix -kan and
the Deferences between
Suffix –kan and –an

2. The suffix –kan has a function to make
an Imperative (in example : berikan,
terangkan) verb and transitive verb (in
example : bungkukkan, acungkan)
In example :
• Berikan buku itu padaku.
• Guru menyuruh murid untuk bungkukkan
badan mereka.

3. The suffix –kan has same
meaning as
“pada, dengan, and atas”.
In example : berasaskan
kesetiakawanan = berasas
pada kesetiakawanan.

4. • If the suffix –kan is paired to “Verb” (Verb + -kan), it will has
a meaning “to do something” ( melakukan perbuatan).
In example : ambilkan buku itu.
• If the suffix –kan is paired to “adjective” (adjective + -kan),
it will has a meaning “make to be” (membuat jadi).
In example : Damaikan mereka.
• If the suffix –kan is paired to “noun”
(noun + -kan), it will has a meaning
“insert to” (memasukkan ke).
In example : Gudangkan gitar itu.

5. B. The differences between suffix –
kan and suffix –an
The suffix –kan will form a “Verb” and the suffix –an will form a
“Noun”.
But, sometime the suffix –an can form a verb, in example
bersamaan, berpergian, bersilangan, berakhiran, berlawanan.
So, the rule that the suffix –an will form a “Noun” is wrong?.
Actually NO. Because it need an prefix ber- and never be paired
to prefix me-. That is why we never found the words
“menyamaan, melawanan, menyilangan, memergian, mengawala
n”. But we can found the word
“menyamakan, melawankan, menyilangkan, memergikan, menga
khirkan, mengawalkan”.

6. We have to be careful to the words
that end by “k”
In example :
1. Tunjuk
We usually found the words :
“tunjukan”, is it right? NO. the correct one is
tunjukkan, which has a meaning “an
imperative verb to obey someone to choose
something”
“Penunjukkan”, is it right? NO.

7. The next examples :
2. “Kesejukkan” is wrong. The correct one is
kesejukan.
3. “Pelukkan” is right. The meaning is an
imperative word that obey someone to neck
something to another thing.
4. “Berpelukan” is wrong. The correct one is
berpelukan.
5. “Pemasukkan” is wrong. The correct one is
pemasukan.

8. So we have to be careful in using some words
like tunjukkan, menunjukkan, and
penunjukkan. Because sometime we think
that when a word which end by “k” and be
added by the suffix –kan will be assimilated
and using only one “k”.
