1. 4. HOW DID YOU USE MEDIA
TECHNOLOGIES IN THE
CONSTRUCTION, RESEARCH,
PLANNING AND EVALUATION
STAGES.
2. RESEARCH
When I started out in A2 researching other film trailers, magazine front covers and film
posters was crucial so that I was able to find out what codes and conventions I needed
to follow in order to make my promotional package like a real media text. To look at
film trailers I used YouTube which I then went on and created Prezi's and PowerPoint
slides to show my findings and to note down things that I liked the look of that I could
put into the creation of my products. I used empire magazines website when
conducting my research into film magazine covers as they have a database that holds
all of their issues, although I also used google to find a number of ‘Total Film’
magazine covers as these have a lot of action specials which is the genre that I was
looking at specifically. I then also used Prezi and PowerPoint to show my findings. I
also used google when researching my film posters to make sure that my poster looked
like a real media text.
3. PLANNING
For planning our group created a group chat so that we could communicate to each
other about when we would need to film for our animatic and trailer and also to take
pictures for our individual magazine covers and posters.
To plan out my magazine cover and my magazine poster I created drawn copies on
paper while using my previous research to give me essential real codes and
conventions o media texts to use so that I was creating my own versions. This then
meant that I was able to follow my designs which I then uploaded onto my blog so
that if the paper drafts went missing I still had a back up to look at.
For the planning of our film trailer we had to create an animatic where we had to take
pictures on an iPhone camera that represented what we wanted in our actual trailer
before uploading to Adobe premier so that we got to know the software before
actually creating our film trailers.
4. CONSTRUCTION
For the construction of my film magazine and I used a different software to what was
provided because I wanted a more modern look as I wanted to ensure that my
package appealed to a younger audience. This software was called Lucidpress which
had a ‘export to InDesign’ which you can use to put it into the given software just to
add in some final key pieces although I did not use this as I was happy with the way
that my products turned out. To edit my pictures I used Photoshop which I had
previous knowledge of from AS when creating magazine pages.
When creating my film trailer we used Adobe Premier to fit in the shots in order,
select how long we all thought each shot should last for and to add in music and
sound effects that would fit in with both our genre and tory of our trailer.
5. EVALUATION
In the evaluation process I used a video camera in the focus group so that as a group we
could look back at the feedback that we received so that we could use quotes in our
evaluation and have a backup of what was said in general. This was then added onto our
blogs along with a PowerPoint that we created to go with our questionnaire to show to
the focus group.
For the main section of my evaluation I sued Prezi and PowerPoint to show what I had
found throughout my time as an A2 media student and blogger was also an essential
tool for me to keep track of everything that I had done and will be something that I can
look back on forever as I am so proud of the work that I have created.
