buy this since they can’t
read this anywhere else, so
if they want to hear it, they
will have to buy the

coverline:The nickname ‘T-Mac’ is
in bright, bold yellow text on the
front cover. This makes sure it
stands out and is clearly the main
article in the magazine. The image
of him takes up the whole cover
and there isn’t too much other text
so this shows he is a very big deal
and is the selling point of this
magazine.
Mise en scene: He is wearing
the jersey of the team he plays
for, the Orlando Magic, and the
prop he is holding is a
basketball. This clearly suggests
that this is a basketball
magazine.
Written codes: subheading
saying “It’s only the beginning”
entices people to read. This is
a bold statement to make so
people may want to hear what
comes next.

It is as if Tracy Mcgrady is
looking straight at the reader.
This makes the reader feel
welcomed to read the magazine
and creates a bond between the
reader and magazine.

bottom of page. They are big
enough to read but a lot smaller
than the text about T-Mac.

Having a famous actor on
front cover may make people
want to read as it shows that
successful people endorse
this magazine and people
look up to successful people.
His name is in a different colour
to the rest of the text. This
means it stands out and shows
that it is the feature article of
the magazine.
Describes Mahershala Ali as an
‘Oscar winner & great American’
This may appeal to the audience
and make them want to read it as
they may now think that
Mahershala Ali is not only a great
oscar winning actor, he is also a
great guy.
Mise en scene: The setting looks like a
nice, maybe tropical location. You can
see the sky is blue, he is drinking a
cold drink and he is wearing a tropical
shirt like you may wear on holiday.
This links in to the feature story of
‘Live the American dream summer’
The GQ Logo isn’t fully showing.
This shows that GQ is such a
popular brand that they don’t
even need to show the full logo to
be recognised. The typography is
thick and bold, perhaps manly, so
this suggests it is a magazine for
men. The logo is sleek and smart.
The main image grabs your
attention. He is smartly dressed,
wearing stylish clothes. This will
appeal to GQ’s audience since it is a
fashion magazine and people who
read want to learn to dress more
stylishly.
He also looks happy on the cover so
people may want to buy this since
they might think buying it will make
them feel happy also
Slogan of ‘look sharp, live smart’. This is the
selling line and also it helps people know what
the magazine is about
The colour scheme of the text is red,
black and white. This is the same
colours as the shirt that he is wearing.
Font choice: Most of the text on
the front cover is all in the same
font. It just alternates in size and
colour. I think this makes the
slogan under GQ stand out
more as this is in a different font.
The magazine is directly
addressing the reader. It says
“you” and “your” on the front
cover as if the magazine is
directly for you.

A lot of the text is white.
The colour white is often
associated with being
fresh and good.
The setting looks as if it is
the desert. The setting of
Breaking Bad was the
desert. This might make
fans of breaking bad want to
read this as they will
recognise this along with the
two main characters of the
show.
Breaking Bad is one of the
few things written in yellow
which means it stands out
as the most important thing
in this magazine.
