Measures of Dispersion and Variability: Range, QD, AD and SD
Task 2 (1).docx
1. FMP Task 2 (Year 2)
Contextual Statement
My chosen format for this FMP is photographyso I
researched famous photographers who used different styles,
but all had a style that I could manage to use when it would
come to production.
After completing the research on my 3 chosen photographers
which were Annie Leibovitz, Steve McCurry and Tim Laman
with a bit of extra research into David Noton… I chose
something different for this project because I feel like I
alwayshave playedit safe using a repeated theme during any
type of project and photography in recent years has slowly
become something I have taken more and more interest in
and I feel like that began in December 2017 when I first
visited New York and first got to experience the New York
Skyline in the day and night which had been a childhood
dream and trying to capture such a breath-taking spectacle..
2019 was also another big year in me finding my love for
photographybecause I was lucky enough to go to Italy on a
school geography trip and then New York twice in June and
November respectively.
Capturing a sun rise over the bay of Napleswith Mount
Vesuvius in the background or capturing the sun setting
down a New York Street with the classic yellow cabs is
something that really gave me the inspirationfor this project.
2. One of the best pictures I have found from my experiences I
had printed out on a giant canvas and now have it in my
room.
I want to do this project because seeing the work of someone
like David Noton and seeing his work photographingstunning
landscapesettings in so many variouslocationsreally made
me think about the pictures. David Noton’swork is an
inspirationbecause some of his work capturing the sky in
Dorset is just gorgeous or any of work taken in the UK in
general.
My idea is to find a possible locationto revisiting over and
over or find a reoccurring theme of photograph to take in
different locations then plan a sort of exhibitionof the work
and really try something different. The photographersI
researched all have very different types of style Leibovitz
tries to capture the celebrities in an intimate style. McCurry
is more capturing images in the middle eastern battle zones
and capturing pictures of the awful damage and destruction
and Tim Laman works mainly on wildlifeand capturing the
human like emotions that animalsshow.
All 3 of these peopleare inspirationsfor me to step into a
format I have so much love for but have never really tried to
use in my work. Trying to capture the wildlifein a manner
that Laman does, trying to feel the same connectionLeibovitz
likely does with her work and then also maybe trying to
capture a darker side like the work of McCurry but the style
of landscape photography used by Noton will be the style
that links my photoshoot to the existing person because I
3. can’t travel to a 3rd
world country and capture war time
images or do a photoshoot with any celebrities.
Photography is something that is beautiful and really
captures something that the human eye only sees and then
forgets about, but photographysaves that view, that
memory, that raw emotion. That is my main inspiration just
the raw beauty of photographyand capturing those
incrediblemoments that life presents and I feel with my love
for photographyand the true beauty and history that my
own home town offers me is the prefect setting and chance
for me to capture those moments and then create my
exhibitionand show York’s beauty and history off.
