INTRODUCTION:
• Polymer, is a substance which has a molecular structure
built up chiefly or completely from a large number of
similar units bonded together. Polymer is all around us, it
can be used in various applications; polyesters in textiles,
PVC(construction), polystyrene for packaging, and many
other polymers in automobile industries etc.

ACTIVITY 1:CHANGING
POLYMER PELLETS.
In the first activity we tested out the
absorption of the polymer pellets. We
found put that Polyacrylamide is one
of the polymers that can absorb water
and turn into a jelly like substance.
However, when we added salt water it
nearly dissolved because of diffusion,
the water particles escaped the
polymer pellets and went to the salt
crystals.
ACTIVITY 2: HUNTING
FOR POLYMER
PRODUCTS
• For this activity, we were
asked to go home and hunt
for polymer products that
are used to make normal
every day products . It was
amusing to see how much
polymer we use every day
with out even thinking about
it.
ACTIVITY
3:OBSERVING
DIFFERENT
VISCOSITIES
In the second activity we
observed the viscosity of
different polymer solutions, we
grasped that the higher the
molecular weight the more
viscose it is. We then spread
out the different polymer
solutions accurately on
microscopic glass slides and
let them dry so we could use
them to create our own
polymer films.

In the final activity we scraped off our polymer films
in order to test the how tensile they are depending
on their multiple molecular mass and weight. We
discovered that depending on these two factors the
polymer films with more mass would be more
tensile and
more elastic. While if it had less MW it would break
quickly after a couple of seconds.
Activity 4:Testing strength and
stretch ability of polymer films.
DESIGN PROJECT:
DESIGNING HUMIDITY SENSOR.
In this activity we produced our own humidity
indicators by mixing 3 different solutions with
different quantities. We mixed a solution, an
indicator and the polymer to then spread it on
the microscopic slides and dry it by the hair
dryer. We observed how it changed color from
blue to pink when exposed to water vapour.

PRODUCT IDEA:
• Eco-pacifier, is a pacifier that is made out of
biodegradable polymers that is healthier and more
eco-friendly than the pacifiers we have now that are
made out of silicone.

BENEFITS:
Our product idea is beneficial as it is eco-friendly and
baby – friendly. The baby can use pacifiers with any of
the essential nutrients embedded in the coating of our
pacifiers and these pacifiers can be replaced easily.

MATERIAL AND METHODS:
Materials required for the nipple filling: Milk, vinegar.
We are going to boil the milk and vinegar so we could
get the plastic-like milk.
For the coating we need starch, glycerin, water and
vinegar.
We will boil all these ingredients together until it turns
into a gel, then we will let it dry

RESULTS:
• In conclusion of our project idea we successfully
made our own prototype of the pacifier that we
believe it can even be developed to the better. This
product can even be used in a variety of different
aspects such as the medical, for supplying medicine
for the baby through it.

CONCLUSION AND RECOMMENDATIONS
• We are trying to reduce the plastic waste from the face
of the earth as much as possible. These type of
plastics can also be used in making baby lotion
bottles, shampoo bottles, or even as layer to replace
the plastic layer coating the diapers (which cause a
huge problem in plastic waste).
• Our product is very cost-effective as it
uses the cheapest ingredients and in fact
its cheaper than the regular plastics.

DEDICATION AND THANKS:
• We want to thank our research department in our
school, as well as Qatar university for allowing us to
take part of this amazing experience. Also, I would like
to thank the sponsors UNESCO, Qatar National
Commission.
• And we can’t forget about the incredible Engineer Nitha.
